How to delete recent files from list

Explorer ,
Dec 17, 2016 Dec 17, 2016

I've seen this question asked in other places but have not seen an answer. I'm running InDesign Release 2015.4. I have deleted some files from the development folder and they're still showing up in the Recent Files list. I've searched RegEdit and deleted them from there but they're still in the list when I launch InDesign. How can I remove them from the Recent Files list?

Thank you.

Set the recent files display to zero in your preferences. Then set it back to whatever you’d like.

I noticed changes in the InDesign way of showing the latest files, which are now automatically vanishing. But this has been a major problem in my case, since I don't want all of them to disappear, only the ones I select. That issue is because the InDesign files are saved on the company server, not my computer. If the connection is interrupted, the latest files are automatically wiped off, and I have to dedicate precious time finding them again.

Then, I noticed that Adobe Acrobat has the best recent file management of all Adobe applications: you can see the newest file list even if it is not connected to the server. If I click on the file once, it shows the whole path to the server, with the "remove from recents" option. By clicking twice, it opens the file - or just an error message, it could not be found, BUT the file stays in the recent list. Acrobat allows me to reconnect to the server and then try opening it again. Brilliant!

I wish all applications - InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator - had this behaviour.

Great observation, Carol. Yes it would be simple enough for Adobe to add this behaviour to other programs if it already exists in Acrobat. After all, they brag about the seamless integration of the CC suite of products! I've been wanting this feature since I joined this conversation in 2019. If only Adobe was listening!
