How to group layers

I am probably missing something obvious. All I want to do is group the layers (in the layers panel). I see you can group objects, but all I want to do is organize my layers panel into (groups-folders?) Like a folder-group for 2022, with a layer for each month inside. I see group (greyed out) in the objects panel. Is this ability to organize just layers in this way possible?

That is something that Illustrator can do, but InDesign does not have the option of Sub-layers like Illustrator does.

Thanks. I'm surprised its not available. Would sure be nice to visually organize the layers panel better.

i too wish we could make groups for layers. that is a feature request:
