How to Import Text Variables from CSV in InDesign

Community Beginner ,
Nov 06, 2024 Nov 06, 2024

I use Indesign mainly for redundant document with text variables. Each time, i need to :

- open a template file

- save to a new file

- edit manually all text variables with the edit variable panel (mainly text variables)

Is there a way to improve this workflow ?

I'm looking for specifically a method that would allow me to import the text variables from a csv file. It would be this kind of file :

variable-1, content

variable-2, content

Any help would be greatly appreciated,

Thanks

You may need to look at a database publishing plugin such as EmSoftware InData or similar. However, I'm sure some clever soul could script something, if they haven't already.

@Ma_Joad

If you work on a PC - I would suggest my ID-Tasker tool - it's not free, but can do way more than what you are looking for.

It could even do it on multiple templates with multiple CSV files - with one click.

Can you share a sample INDD file + one or more csv files?
