Hi @AK09M,
See the following discussions. you may have to use the script given there if you want to search for the word at the start of a line. Foe the start of a paragraph you can use a find grep query also mentioned in the thread.

you can find a way if there is an enter befor paragaph
go to Type>show hidding character
Copy the Enter sign with word and the space after (highlighted in the screenshot), past them in find dialog box
or you can type in the find dialog

Not mentioned in that other discussion is that there is a very high likelihood that at some point during document editing the text wrapping on any particular paragraph will change and what was the first word on any given line will no longer be first. Even the act of a small modification of a found first word can cause InDesign's paragraph composers to to alter the linebreaks.

Peter has a very good point.
It's the job of the paragraph composer to do modifcations on a word that is positioned at the beginning of a line of text if a certain language require this. In conjunction with the right language assigned to the text of course and the used font of course when e.g. something like a ligature is required.
If it is a decorative element only you have to go through every line of text and change the word to the required form. In that case you can only hope that the applied paragraph composer does not decide for a different breaking of lines in the paragraph. Best chance: use one of the three Adobe Single Line Composer settings.
What's the langauge?
Can you give us a sample of an incorrect case?
And another sample of a correct one?
What's the paragraph composer setting you are currently using? ( There can be six different ones in InDesign. )
What's the language setting applied to the text?
Best put a sample InDesign document on Dropbox or a similar service and share the download link.

Uwe Laubender
