How to make margins between text frame edges and borders?

Community Beginner ,

Hi.

I have text frames with solid line rounded borders.

I want to create margins between the borders and the edges of a text frame so that when I put the frame close to another element, the border will not touch it.

Is it possible to do so?

Or maybe it is possible to make it so that the frame itself has a margin, i.e. when you put it at say 1mm distance to an object, a guide pops up helping to put it in place.

Thanks

Hm. Maybe something like the sample below that I did with my own stroke style:

Hi John,

use the insets option you can access with the TextFframe Options Dialog. You can access this with the context menu after selecting the frame or using a keyboard shortcut. From my German InDesign CC 2018.1:

Thanks, but it's not really what I want to do. I know how to create margins between the text and the edges, but how to create margins between the borders and the edges? So that the borders are inside and not on the edges. Here's a picture:

Hi John,

sorry, then I do not really get what you want.

Could you fake something and show the result as screenshot?

Are you using InDesign CS6?

Regards,
Uwe

Just a note for InDesign CC 2018.1 users: You can do that with Paragraph Borders very easily.

Right click on text frame and select text frame options. You can then set the inset spacing.

Oops Laubender beat me to it.
