I can't use the Save to PDF from print booklet anymore. help!

I put together an unimposed 16 page document and before I updated to the newest version of Adobe CC I used to be able to save it as a booklet by accessing a "save to PDF" option from the Print Booklet drop down menu. Now when I do this it says the "save as PDF option in the printer dialogue is not supported." This is really frustrating, because I want to offer imposed versions of this booklet online for people to be able to download and print themselves. Is there a work around or other easy way to do this?

You would need to download and install a PPD, here is a link:

Alternately, create a new 16 page InDesign document, place the original 16 pages into the new file in printer's spread order, export to 8 spread pages.

I downloaded the PPD and followed the instructionss but this seems to only enable me to save i no as a .ps file not a pdf. 

I could definitely do it the manual way, but I will be making many many booklets of lengths from 8 pages to 100 and I really hope to find a way that isnt manual.

There is a built in booklet function in Acrobat and Reader. Anyone needing an imposed version would find it much easier to use.

ahhh it looks like you are using a PC, I have read that this is only a problem for people using a mac 😞

The Acrobat Booklet feature is cross platform—just open the print dialog. This is Acrobat Reader onOSX 10.14.6:

Right. I have the booklet option for printing, but I want to SAVE it as a booklet pdf to publish online so people who dont have this program can easily print it.  I used to be able to open the print booklet dialogue and there was a way to "save to PDF" from there but many mac users with updated Adobe CC and OS can't do this anymore. I found a solution that works from another user involving saving it as a .ps and converting it to a .pdf in acrobat. This will be fine for me, but I do wish that Adobe would build a save booklet feature into their program.. It'ss baffling to me that they don't.

Wow. I just spent about two hours trying to solve this InDesign to PDF booklet problem and you've just shown me how the answer was right in front of me. I guess it isn't working for the person below wanting to SAVE the book layout (as designed) as a pdf. Design is not my primary profession but I have faked my way through ID for at least ten years and can usually get what I need. Not this time, until I saw you're post. Thank you!

On OSX you can still user Distiller to make a PDF from a Saved Print Booklet .ps file.

You can also use one of the several scripts that will create an imposed file from your open .indd, then export that to PDF using any settings you like (so it needn't get flattened).

If you are working in InDesign your options to save as pdf are file/Adobe presets:

I know how to save as a PDF but I want to know how to save a file that is laid out unimposed, as an imposed booklet pdf

Just keep in mind printing to .ps is a flattened postscript workflow. It will work for straight forward, all CMYK  documents, but you may run into production problems if you are using more complex color or transparency effects.

thanks for that! Luckily It was a basic CMYK booklet, so it worked for me this time! but I do hope that one day Adobe will build in a Save Booklet PDF option into their program.

Don't hold your breath. Imposition is not a part of pagelayout.

Adobe Reader is FREE. I wouldn't be surprised if other PDF apps also have built in booklet printing. If you impose it you're forcing them to use an imposed version and that is far from user friendly. I'd advise providing a properly exported PDF with instructions on how to use Adobe Reader to print it as a booklet for those choosing to.

I agree with Bob, it won’t happen. Export PDF purposefully does not include print specific tasks—trapping, separations, imposition—because usually the exporter would not know the press details and capabilities that affect those choices. They are better handled in the RIP.

Instead of the Device Independent PPD file you should be using the ADPDF9.PPD for PDF.

This is once again UNSOLVED.  Blatner article is nowhere to be found. The fact that the answer to such a simple problem (Export a booklet to PDF!)  is so diffficult to find is ridiculous.
