I just want to print a magazine correctly and I'm getting this postscript error

there's this option on indesign that I need to use called "print booklet" and it allows me to get a pdf file with each pages facing the right one , for exemple : I'm making a 12 page magazine , 1 is the cover , 12 is the back cover , 2 faces 11 ect... , all pages are in A4 so the spread is in A3 format , in the preview tab everything seems ok and it's the layout I want, I also want trim marks and I did check that , but when I click on print I get this .txt error file and I don't know what it mean or how should I resolve the issue in order to get my pdf ready for printing :

%%[ ProductName: Distiller ]%%
%%[Page: 1]%%
%%[Page: 2]%%
%%[ Error: ioerror; OffendingCommand: readstring ]%%

Stack:

(› PoÈsKÖnµÐY5Âê2¢ ÷Fmø-êíöYJ
øR½=Ö¤e-
-mark-
-save-

%%[ Flushing: rest of job (to end-of-file) will be ignored ]%%
%%[ Warning: PostScript error. No PDF file produced. ] %%

does someone know how to resolve this issue specifically, or what the error message tries to indicate ?

Why not skip this step in ID and do something similar in Acrobat?

because trim marks don't work correctly or are grayed out and it's just simpler to do it from ID directly

Why are you doing this? Is the printer requesting this?

If so, find another printer. The one you're dealing with is not worthy of your business.

@oko8  As Mike suggested, you should try exporting to the PDF option. For more details, please click here

Kindly share the outcome.

this was already done and exporting like this will not give me spreads with the correct facing pages (not 1,2,3 ect... but 1/12 , 2/11 , 3/10 , 4/9, 5/8 , 6/7) with marks and bleeds , unless I use acrobat but the booklet option doesn't allow for marks and bleeds somehow , now I just could stick with that but I'm trying to find a better solution that wouldn't be as DIY as this , if I could identify the origin of the error message that would probably help

Then why the PDF? Just go right to the printer?

Or...export a proper PDF and use Acrobat's booklet printing feature.

I think you would need a duplex printer—there doesn‘t seem to be a way to print odd and even spreads separately from Print Booklet

but there is , if print booklet worked the way it was intended to work then that would be my answer , like I said what I have in the preview tab is the result I want , it's just the output that's bugged out , but at any rate , I'm just gonna give up on that thing and let the printer figure it out

A commercial printer should never be asking for imposed pages--the client doesn't have the required press info to correctly setup the press sheet.

Most printers would have charged you extra to break the document apart. They have their own equipment and processes for this.

I want to be clear with that : no printer are holding me hostage right now or something as I did not made any contact any printer at all , this is my own initiative , which also why I could just give up on that , it was just a nice plus I could add but I guess adobe tools aren't really cooperative right now

How much creep allowance do they need? What's the size of the press sheet? Are they really only printing 2-up (Print Booklet's limit)? Is it Saddle Stitch or Perfect Binding? If it's perfect binding, what's the size of the signature?

Hmmm.

Could you provide detail about how you go about printing to PDF? What are your settings? And why not export to PDF to get a better-working PDF?

I did do the ctrl+E and then to acrobat but like I said it wasn't really conclusive since I want trim marks and bleeds so the edges looks nice and with no white line , so I just want to know if there's a way to make this work from ID directly

Hi @oko8, You need the Adobe PDF 9.0 PPD with Postscript file set as the Printer. See this thread:

This OP appears to be on Windows, and the Adobe PDF 9.0 PPD appears to be already in play, according to the OPs second set of screenshots?

The PPD is cross platform, I think you need it for the custom Setup required for the imposition
