I recently re-installed InDesign CS6. I tried to open a file I had saved before the re-install and it now only shows the boxes of where images/text etc were before. It doesn't show the content. Is there something new I should know?
Your file looks fine on my end Sandy. I'm pretty sure you're dealing with the fact that CS6 is not working on Windows 10. CS6 is 7 versions old at this point. Probably time to upgrade. You can download a free trial of InDesign CC 2018 and test it. That would be an easy way to figure out the problem.

Text is text in InDesign so you should see no difference whatsoever. Can you post some screen shots of what you're seeing? Sometimes a picture is worth 1,000 words.

There are no images or text, just boxes (like place holders) where my text/images should be. The links to the images are active but not displaying on my file.

I have not received an answer to my question. I have a Windows 10 operating system.

CS6 is unsupported on Windows 10. You can try to reset your preferences and/or run the application in Windows 7 compatibility mode but beyond that, you're on your own.

The case number for re-installing is #0189491427 with Kushal Singh S. I can't find a way to contact him to see what the re-install did to cause this problem. How can I contact him?

This is a user-to-user forum, and Bob has already explained what the issue is. Kushal Singh S won't be able to do more.

Bob has explained CS6 is not supported running under Windows 10, you need to upgrade to InDesign CC2017/2018 (or revert your OS).

Hi Sandy, then you did not mark Chad's answer as "correct"?

Truthfully, you'll generally get better answers in this forum than you would get by calling Adobe Support. First-level support staff are usually reading answers out of a book. People here have actually been using InDesign for many years.

Good to know. I'm right here looking for an answer. Why would he have re-installed CS6 when he knew I was running on Windows 10? He re-installed all Adobe software like Dreamweaver, Photoshop, InDesign etc.

This is a shot in the dark, but it occurred to me that somehow the View > Display Performance menu option might be set to Fast Display (here's what it looks like on my screen after placing a high-res photo and typing in some brief text, with the setting at Fast Display).
This view turns everything into placeholders, but the content is still there. You can switch it to High Quality Display to see if the placeholders disappear and the placed content reappears.

Buck,
Your "shot in the dark" was right on. By clicking each box like yours above and setting to high quality display, text and images displayed.
Thank you, thank you!

Text would be unaffected by this setting. I suspect you have the greek text below set to 7points in your preferences.

Buck,
Help! After updating the file and saving it. When I reopened it, it was back to just placeholders and I can't get the content to display again. I can't remember my first steps to get high quality display to work. Can you help me again?

OK, so what you need to do is go to your display performance preferences. InDesign > Preferences > Display Performance (Mac) or Edit > Preferences > Display Performance (Windows) and in the Default View drop-down menu at the top of the dialog box, choose Typical or High Quality whichever you prefer. This should set the default display performance for all files that you open.

Chad,
I went to Edit > Preferences > Display Performance (Windows) and in the Default View drop-down menu at the top of the dialog box, I chose High Quality.
I left Preserve Object - Level Display settings blank.
I set Adjust View Settings: to High Quality.
Enable Anti-aliasing was checked.
Greek Type Below was set at 7 pt.
And I clicked on Use Defaults.
I opened my file and only placeholder boxes showed.
I then checked the view settings for the file - it was set at High Quality.
I then checked each box Display settings and some had Use View Setting checked, others had High Quality Display.
STILL NO CONTENT VISIBLE!
These files (front and back) are invitations for my company dinner and they need to go out in the mail tomorrow. I'm pulling my hair out. I used the 2016 files formatting to change the text to the 2017 information. The only difference from last years invitations is the InDesign CS6 re-install.
Any thoughts . . .
I would add my files to this discussion but I can't see where I can do this???

In those preferences, try turning off Allow object level display settings.

I left Preserve Object - Level Display settings blank. So I'm assuming that means they are "Off".

Might there be any other possibilities I could try? Is there a way to include my files in these discussions?

Try choosing View > Display Performance > Clear Object-Level Display Settings. Then choose View Display Performance > uncheck Allow Object-Level Display Settings. Then one last time, choose View > Display Performance > High Quality Display.
If that doesn't work, direct message me and you can send me the file so I can take a look. Actually, is this happening with all files or only one file?

Chad,
I very much appreciate your help.
I tried choosing View > Display Performance > Clear Object-Level Display Settings. Then choose View Display Performance > uncheck Allow Object-Level Display Settings. Then one last time, choose View > Display Performance > High Quality Display.
It didn't work. I'm back to all placeholders only. How do I direct message you to send you the file?
It is happening to all InDesign files that I have when I try to open.
