Hi,
I noticed that InDesign inserts extra space before and after a character style when exported to epub. Looking at the HTML, this is due to the spaces that ID inserts in between a <span> tags. So, a sentence like this: "the adobe, forum", would turn out like this "the adobe , forum".
Is there a way to clean this up in ID before exporting to epub?
This is for CS4.
Thanks.

InDesign CS4 is 10 years old, to get the best ePub conversion you need to upgrade to the latest CC version. You can download the free trial version of InDesign CC2019 to test it.

The answer is no. CS4's tools for this were very, very rudimentary. If you want to create EPUBs move to Creative Cloud or find a different application to create them.

Hi Bob. I understand that CS4 has limited capability to convert to epub but as is the case for other aspects of InDesign, users may have encountered the issue and be able to provide tips to work around it or make the conversion in such a way that it requires less manual tweaking in epub files. I appreciate that you keep this thread open (or reopened it) as I was unable to reply prior, to Derek. That being said, the answer of upgrading to CC2019 is still off topic and not the correct answer, as far as I'm concerned; it's merely a recommendation.

You asked if there was anything that could be done in CS4 to fix this before exporting. The answer is no. You'll need to upgrade.
That is the correct answer. But if it will make you feel better, I'll unmark it.
