I am looking to take my template from ID and place into Word where the base elements will not change. Basically, looking to have others use the template outside of ID.

Best advice I can give you is that if you need a Word template, create it in Word.

Although this workaround suggestion will most likely not produce decent results, you can try exporting PDF from ID, and open Acrobat and save as Word Document.

You can make a word document from a .pdf. However, acrobat .pdf files do not keep any styles data when making the .pdf. if you want a template with styles, make it in word. I do it all the time and it's worth the time.

Is objects from this template will never have a changes? Do a .jpg from your ID page and insert as background image to .docx.

I tend to agree that this is not a good workflow, but I felt someone should metion that Recosoft has a conversion plugin. I've never used it and have no idea about how well it works.

I also recall that Anne Marie Concepcion (I think) wrote an article on InDesign Secrets quite a few years ago about moving layouts from InDesign into Word for uses like letterheads that could be used in an office environment, and tips on things one could do to get the best results. I believe it involved exporting as RTF. Unfortunately I can't seem to find a link, but perhaps someone else knows where to find it.

It was AM and I think she did a lynda course on it. But I don't have a link, either, and I'm sticking with my first answer.

I don't disagree with your response at all. My recollection is the best I could ever do as far as creating a letterhead template for Word users was to do something like position graphic and fixed elements in ID where you have better control and export those into .wmf for placement into a Word Template (and that might actually have been what AM suggested), but it was a pale comparison to the real thing.
