My .indd files suddenly won't open in InDesign from the directory on my pc laptop. The suffix is intact (.indd) but the icon is blank. I can only open the files from within InDesign (same is occuring with Photoshop). I've tried saving, renaming, etc. but always get this message when trying to open from the directory: "This file does not have an app associated with it for performing this action. Please install an napp ..." I suspect some kind of Microsoft update (I'm still on Windows 10). I looked at 'choose default apps' in Windows settings, but can't figure out how to fix this. I've never encountered this in 20 years working with InDesign. These are my files, created on my laptop, and saved on my hard drive. Help, please.

Does this happen to all your files or just certain ones? It would help if you could take more informaton about your system: Please tell us (exactly) what InDesign version you're using.

Now that I call weird! It looks like that's something which has been messed up by the cloud client just running. See, this is the reason why I disabled it from running as service or being auto-started by the tools. I find these background jobs all nonsense. ID doesn't need the cloud or this CXP thingy.

When you double-click an INDD file in Explorer you should be prompted to choose an application. You may have to browse to the C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe InDesign 2023\InDesign.exe file.
If that doesn't do it (and it might not stick) you may be better off just re-installing.
