Hi @nicolel81757029,
Sorry to hear about the trouble. There are two known issues for crashes on launch that were reported. Crash on launch on Windows on InDesign v17 which stands resolved. The other was on v18.5 on macOS Ventura, in which the issue was resolved after updating the macOS to the latest version of macOS Ventura. So if you have macOS, please test InDesign 18.5 on the latest build of macOS Ventura and let us know how it goes.
Thanks
Rishabh

Dear Community Members,
On Friday last week I was able to created a support ticket E-001036928. I had also a remote session with Adobe Support and the only conclusion is that their Engineer team will have a look on this within 48 hours.

Hi Community,
Gregor F. mentioned it may be a problem with the license server of Adobe. In his company the single accounts don't work. The team accounts are ok.
I opened another new single account plus a new teams account under a different name today.
Behavior:
online:
17.4.2 crashes on "tracker" message,
offline:
17.4.2 makes it past the splash screen, but crashes about 7 seconds after the gray screen is displayed. In the meantime, you can't operate any menu items.
The behavior affects my "old" single account and also the new accounts created today.
My original problem is another one:
18.x can be launched. Version 18 is not affected by this license server problem.
BUT: 18.1 through 18.5 have a significant problem creating PDF files when importing WMF files (MathType, Illustrator). The bug was already reported to Adobe for 18.1, and you regularly got the answer: fixed in the next version. The bug is not fixed in 18.5 yet.
Today I had two calls with the hotline: The agent on the second call didn't know about the 17.4.2 problem. But he mentioned, the new Beta version 18.9.BETA may solve my problem with WMF import.
I tried the 18.9 BETA today. The WMF bug is not fixed this time either.
I.e. I and a few other people still have to rely on 17.4.2 (or 17.4.1).

I had the same problem with InDesign 16.4 on Mac OS Morave (simultaneously on multiple machines). I tried a lot, the only thing that helps is reinstalling an OLDER version. But older versions than v17 are no longer online ... So Adobe gave me via chat an installation of 16.0, it runs on my system.
But it CAN'T be that we have to downgrade because of the changes, Adobe MUST make sure that an older running system stays stable too! I hope they fix this quickly!

Meanwhile, elsewhere an Adobe person suggested doing one of the following.
(1) Delete the folder C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\UXP\extensions\com.adobe.ccx.start-7.0.0 (or its Mac equivalent), or:

As 17.4 is still working for me, I'll keep these suggestions "in reserve". However, I am VERY interested to hear whether these solutions work for others.

Hello TaW,
thank you very much for this very helpful information.
I tried the following on my notebook:
- Renamed the folder "com.adobe.ccx.start-7.0.0" (I didn't want to delete the whole folder yet).
- then restarted the notebook
- started InDesign 17.4.2: still crashes on launch
2nd try:
- folder name changed back to original: "com.adobe.ccx.start-7.0.0"
- in the file "manifest.json" changed the text 19.0 to 19.0.0 in 2 places
- then restarted notebook
- started InDesign 17.4.2: it runs :-)))
- Quit and restarted InDesign: Runs also on the 2nd try and also on the 3rd try.
Now I will try this on my work PC as well.
By the way, it was interesting that all files in the above folder were dated 23.09.2023 - the day when nothing worked ...

UPDATE - E-Mail vom Adobe just 1 minute ago (also see attachment):
I have not tried this yet, but will try it on a test PC too!

I just tested the suggestion from the ADOBE support email.
It works even without restarting the computer and is done quickly.
Rename folder "UXP" to "UXP.OLD":
- Windows: C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\UXP.OLD
- Mac: /Library/application support/Adobe/UXP.OLD
Before this attempt, I had restored the "manifest.json" file to its original erroneous state of 09/23/2023: InDesign could then indeed no longer be started!

Hello Community,
Update:
Also on my DELL Workstation InDesign 17.4.2 can be launched again after renaming the folder UXP to UXP.OLD.
Hopefully the situation remains stable and all users can work again!

Hi Jean-Claude,
a few minutes ago I also had the CC update.
After that in the directory
"C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\"
there was a newly created folder "UXP" with date/time of the update.
The file "manifest.json" has now indeed 2x the correct entry "19.0.0" (instead of "19.0").
InDesign 17.4.2 is running 🙂

Exactly the same as everyone else; InDesign crashing when trying to launch...The only thing that works for me is resetting the preferences on each launch of InDesign (which on a Mac is: Launch the app, and immediately press 'command+option+ctrl+shift')
Mac M2 Max
Ventura 13.21

Thank you, this is the only option which works at my computer. I hope, Adobe will fix this problem as soon as possible!!!

If you're on macOS Ventura then update to the latest version of Ventura (13.6.x) (just don't upgrade to macOS 14 Sonoma).
