Just started using ID 2025 this morning and I'm noticing a LOT of lag time with pretty much any activity. I'm running a Mac Studio with an M2 Ultra, so it's not my computer. I've tried some simple troubleshooting but it is simply not responding like ID 2024. Help!

Hi @Bigwig:
I'd start by rebuilding preferences:

If that doesn't work, I would just go back to the version you were working on before the update. It's usually a good idea not to update to a .0 release. Let someone else go through this pain and report the issues and update again after it the .1 release is out.
Also, you may not know this, but you can have more than one version installed on your computer. I kee
...A couple of things that have helped -
1. Turn off Preflight: Window/Output/Preflight. Unfortunately, they don't give us the option for it to be off by default so you'll have to remember to turn it off every document you open.
2. Turn off Font Previews: On a blank screen go to Preferences/Type/Type Options/ uncheck the box for "Enable in-menu Font Previews" then Restart InDesign to "make it so!"
So far, these have helped. I'm on Macbook M1 Pro with Sequoia 15.0
Hi! For me, disable/hide contextual bar might have solve the lack of response ! Maybe because InDesign is always updating this window as you change tool or click on something…

I just received the InDesign 20.1 update this morning on the East Coast. So far, things are running much better. More testing to come.

Running the Mac OS 15.3 update this morning seemed to finally fix the issues for me, and I can use Indesign2025 again without wanting to tear my hair out every few seconds. Even with the context bar and font previews and everything left turned on.

Just in case: did you also update to the recently released InDesign 20.1?

I was already on 20.1 and experiencing the lag in it as of yesterday. I let the OS update run first thing when I sat down this morning.
(The OS update also fixed a different lag issue I was experience with gestures on the magic mouse since first going to OS 15 in general so maybe they were related for me?)

I updated to Sequoia 15.3, following all the instructions from the selected answers. It made some improvements, such as allowing me to use InDesign again, which was previously impossible. The lag during each selection disappeared, but I still experience a very annoying delay after dragging an object, preventing me from dragging it again. Resizing is also slow, even on a typical display.
I use an M4 Pro with 48GB of RAM, which is ridiculous to have laggy software.

Have you updated to the latest 20.1 version?
If you did - have you reset preferences - just in case? And maybe cache?

I updated to Mac OS 15.3 and Indesign 20.1 and the lag is still there -- even a simple 2-page document with no linked images beachballs for 5 seconds upon opening and freezes between actions like clicking on a text box. This is on a brand new M4 Pro MacBook Pro and therefore a brand new install of InDesign and all other Creative Cloud apps so I don't think it's the damn preference file. InDesign 19.5.1 doesn't have the lag.

Reseting preferences alone hadn't fixed the issues here either, but on a different computer in our office uninstalling Indesign 20.1 (deleting the preferences and settings with it) and reinstalling did. Might be worth it to try as a last ditch effort? If it doesn't work it sounds like you have a 19.x you can go back to until indesign issues a new update to try, I would do that. It's crazy frustrating how bad that lag is too—even just slectecting a box. I couldn't handle it.

Thank you for the suggestion. I have my doubts reinstalling will help in my case as 2025 lagged immediately upon installing on a new computer. I'm using 19.5.1 without lag so until I hit the point where I can't reliably save files down (I get lots from clients who I guess are not having issues with the latest ID version), I'll just keep my fingers crossed that Adobe doesn't introduce anothe show-stopping bug in 19.x.

I upgraded and still have lag as well. I had to reinstall 2024 to get some work done. Really frustrating.

I am still having this issue. Especially when going between apps like Word, PowerPoint, and InDesign. I've done all these suggestions, but after a day the lag will reappear. Running Win11, 64GB RAM, Intel Core Ultra 9 on a Dell Precision 5690.

Confirm rampant 3-4 second beach balls when clicking around the menus, selecting text pauses and hesitations, scrolling same things. Just received a brand new MacBook pro M4P this week, installed 2025 20.1 fresh and above description was the immediate result.
Pathetic.

Yes, too many people are reacting to it being laggy.
Adobe is all about innovation, but forgets to optimize and address important basic operations.

Issue resolved - binned off 2025 and reinstalled 2024. It took a while to back-save all my working files but it's the best decision I've made. I just won't be updating to the current version now. Don't need the problems and I certainly don't need the useless generative AI rubbish. 2024 version does exactly what I want. There's no need to update if you don't need to. It offers nothing extra that benefits my workflow. If more people dumped 2025 and reverted back to more stable versions then the InDesign team wouldn't have the userbase engagements to justify their constant slapdash updating.
