InDesign 2026: Font tracking malfunctioning

New Here ,
Dec 22, 2025 Dec 22, 2025

Whereas in previous versions font tracking was fine, in the new version (on Window 11 Pro) I am getting irregular spacing with some characters crowding together. It is happening with several fonts that have never previously caused problems. The only workaround i've found is adding a carriage space at the end of the paragraph, which causes the spacing to snap into the correct position.

Hi Richard_Blackfriars

Thank you for reaching out, and sorry for the trouble you're experiencing with fonts. Would you mind telling us the version of InDesign installed on your machine? Could you please attach a screenshot or screen recording showing the font malfunctioning for better understanding? Does that happen with all files or with a specific file?

Are these Adobe fonts or third-party fonts? Please share the names of the fonts.

Meanwhile, you may try signing out of the Creative Cloud Desktop app, restarting your machine, signing back in, and then launching InDesign to try again. You may also try clearing the font cache as mentioned in this article.

We will try our best to help.

Thanks,

Harshika

I'm using the latest version of InDesign. The issue has only occurred in this version, since i updated. I don't have a screenshot to share at present as i manually adjusted the tracking to overcome the specific problem. The problem was fonts appearing too close or overlapping in an irregular fashion. It's not something i have seen occur in the Adobe suite previously, and i've been using it a couple of decades now. The fonts were Trajan Pro and Lato, both Adobe fonts.

I will try clearing the cache as suggested.
