First, the latest InDesign update installed "2026" on my Win 11 box, but did not remove/update the "Start", or the "Taskbar" shortcut links ...
After sorting out the "Can't open this InDesign file - it was created in a newer version" roadblock, I have been working on simple, no linked art, etc. 8.5x11" documents and running into a BIG problem ...
Creating & saving a single-page document, then creating an additional text frame, adding formatted text, thinking about "what's next" \, etc ...
I will have the "text cursor" involved, tap the intended frame to enter SOMETHING/ANYTHING text-related & the existing content disappears ...
The text frame remains, nothing is flashing, no warning/error box appears - nothing ...
Going to the edit drop-down menu shows "undo clear" (not my initial reaction destination) ...
The "undo clear" desire returns the affected text, but in a previous iteration - the last save has resolved to "somewhere" in the run-up to said "save" ...
The backspacing of text, "enter" for a new paragraph > gone ...
Previous "before back-deletion" characters, no new paragraph break - whatever "accomplished since "SAVE" does not exist ...
Windows has been updated a few times recently (not sure of an update happening between an "OK" InDesign build & this latest workflow re-direct) ...
I'm just a remote Prepress/Graphic Designer who's getting older & more invisible (boo-hoo) ...
Would be nice if my $59.99/month subscription wasn't also an unscripted walk in the woods ...

Hi
The issue seems to be resolved in pre-release build 21.2.0.27. I was able to work for a whole hour without the text disappearing. Thanks for that! When will you release InDesign 21.2?
KR Katja
Hi everyone,
I completely understand how disruptive and frustrating this issue has been. Thank you all for sharing detailed examples, files, and recordings.
I want to confirm that this behavior has been logged as a bug and is actively being investigated by the product team. The team is reviewing the workflows and shared files to identify the root cause of the text disappearing intermittently while typing or editing, particularly on Windows.

...Hi everyone,
Thanks again for your patience here. I wanted to share a quick update from the product team.
The fix for this issue is included in InDesign 21.2, and the latest pre-release build available now is 21.2.0.27, which is newer than the 21.2.0.25 build mentioned earlier. If you are still seeing the text disappearing behavior, please update to 21.2.0.27 from the Creative Cloud Desktop App under Apps > Pre-release > InDesign and test the same workflow there.
Once you've tried the update,

Thank you for your answer, yes I did try the troubleshoot, but no result.
Indeed the problem looks simular to the thread you refer to. So maybe I should wait for the indesign update, although I have the same problem with a previous (much older) version of Indesign (20.5.1)
That's a bit strange no?

As a test I installed Indesign onto another Laptop (Intel(R) HD Graphics 5500) where the GPU and monitor where compatible and so I could disable GPU in Indesign. Still text disappears, but now not every minute but approx. every 5 minutes. So still there is this text disappearing Glitch.

NOTE: I had the text disappearing glitch problem (every 5 min) with or without the GPU enabled in Indesign, it did not make any difference.

I'm also getting this issue in v20 and v21. To address it I have to force a redraw somehow, by jumping to the next page and back again, or by using the Force Redraw command (Ctrl+Shift+/ I think on Windows).

Hi Ingrid
I first accepted the release Notes here https://www.adobeprerelease.com/beta/C6DFA254-C40C-4EEB-8F6D-F4AEDA2E6171. Then I logged out of the creative cloud app and logged in again. After that, the prerelease appeared under programs >prerelease. Men as i mentioned in my first post here, it is not the version that Abishek is referring to but I gave it a try. KR Katja

Hi,
is there any chance to get a fix also for older versions - e. g. 20.5.1 (2025)?
Thanks

Hallo and thank you for the information about the new build.
Unfortunately it isn't present yet in the list of pre-releases
Do you know if this is known and will be updated soon?
I'm just in front of a heart attack for days now since I have to finish a manual and my text disappears every four characters I write 😞
Cheers,
Klaus

How can I get the update? There is no prerelease for Indesign on my account. There is only one
for Illustrator. Working in Sweden, using PC, Windows 11, Indesign 21.1. This problem is driving me crazy. I’ve been struggling with it since December.

Hi Katja,
I used the middle link abishek posted above and after login with my adobe account I entered this page:
https://www.adobeprerelease.com/beta/C6DFA254-C40C-4EEB-8F6D-F4AEDA2E6171
Unfortunately the build he mentioned i still not present.
Maybe that helps...

Hi Klaus,
Thank you for your help. I now understand how I need to proceed to reach the pre-lease build.
I have now installed ID 2026 (21.2.0.24). As you mention, that is not the version that Abishek is referring to, but I was thinking that he might simply have written it incorrectly—25 instead of 24?
I’ve now done some testing by writing and selecting text, and so far the text has not disappeared. We’ll see whether this has actually resolved the issue or if it was just a coincidence.

OK...I installed and started the PreRelease, tried to import my pre-settings which are incompatible in the PreRelease :-((((
Anyway I loaded my book and went to the file I need to edit....typed a couple of characters and tried to mark some words and BAM....... same sh.. happens like before. So in my case, the PreRelease will not fix my issue...
Again one hour lost for nothing 😞

Hi Klaus, have you seen that the pre-release app was automatically updated to the latest version 21.2.0.27? According to the release notes, the issue with text disappearing should be fixed. I haven’t checked it out yet, but I’m hopeful.

Hi Katja,
yes, I updated the Pre-Release to .27 and can confirm meanwhile that in my environment the disappearing text issue "disappeared" 😉
Take care,

Hi Abishek,
tried the last Pre-Release which is available (21.2.0.24) but this doesn't fix the issue. 😞
Any other ideas?

I can't believe I was able to do this, but I did, and it worked! Seems to have solved the "text disappearing problem" for me. Thank you for the clear instructions. Took me a while, but finally success!
Question: I'm new to "pre-release." Assuming I work out of that build until the next minor or major release? And what will that be in the form of, an Update? Any idea of the next one planned for INDD?

I suppose this is the same issue as dicussed in https://community.adobe.com/t5/indesign-discussions/indesign-2026-text-disappears-while-editing-text....
If so then the fix is already in prerelease builds you can check that

I'm having a similar problem on the Mac version - it's driving me nuts! I have to zoom in/zoom out to bring the text back into view after every edit in a text box.
