InDesign Beta - "Convert PDF to InDesign File" not working

New Here ,
Apr 07, 2025 Apr 07, 2025

Hello,

I have tried to use the alleged new InDesign Beta feature of converting PDF to indesign files.

I have followed this tutorial: Convert PDFs to InDesign files in InDesign (Beta) app

Unfortunately, after clicking File -> Open and then selecting a PDF, nothing happens. I don't even get an error message. The file I'm trying to open and convert is under 4 MB and just one page.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Hi Bob,

I'm assuming it was created with either InDesign or Illustrator but I don't know.

Open it in Acrobat and check. AFAIK, only PDFs created with InDesign will work and even then it's not all that good.

If it was created properly in Illustrator with the default to retain Illustrator editing, just open it there.

It was created with Adobe InDesign CC 2015.

Make sure are using the latest beta version.

From the OP's link:

  • With the latest InDesign Beta version, you can open multiple PDFs from any source (e.g., PDFs created from Illustrator, Photoshop, Express, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft PowerPoint, Apple Numbers, Canva, etc.)

Make sure the PDF is not password protected. If you are sure it isn't locked somehow, uninstall and reinstall through the Creative Cloud app.

I just converted a MS Word, a PowerPoint, and an InDesign CS2 PDF.

Hi @sadri_8457,

Adding to what the experts suggested, could you also confirm if this issue is specific to that one particular PDF or if other PDFs open fine using the same method? Also, please confirm your operating system.

Looking forward to your update!
