Hoping someone can help me figure this out! I'm getting a massive slowdown when I exceed 4-5 master pages in my doc. (Currently, I have/want to use 10 master pages for 64 pages of text; created as a parent and child masters.)
I've turned off live Preflight & Save Preview images, set display to Typical. There are no images or drawings or links in this doc. Nothing else is running, and I'm using a late 2014 iMac, 4ghz intel core i7, 32 GB memory, AMD Radeon r9 m295x 4GB graphics card.
Once I delete half my master pages, everything runs smoothly no matter how many pages of text I have in this doc!
Any ideas?

Have you tried exporting to IDML and re-opening that IDML and saving as an INDD file?
Have you tried trashing preferences?

Hi there,
Sorry to hear about the slow performance in InDesign documents with multiple master pages. In addition to the suggestions shared by Mike, you can also try moving the pages to a new document.
In case you need help, you can refer to these help articles:

How would that help?
I had the same problem with a 206 page book.
I ended up going to one set of master pages which took care of the page numbers and odd page header. For even page headers I had to override all master items on those pages and put them in manually which wasn't too bad, it was a lot faster than trying to work with the machine bogged down to a standstill. Not ideal but I was hoping someone in here would have a proper explaination.
