InDesign CC 2017 slow

I am having issues with InDesign CC 2017 being extremely slow. If I click on a font the beachball just spins... I tried working in it for a few hours but it is killing me and went back to the previous version.

I use Suitcase Fusion and turned off Typekit. I am running Mac OS Sierra.

Is anyone else having this issue? I can't find any complaints online.

Thank you

I had a student version of CS6 on CD. I installed that and did not allow it to update. So far, it's working like a charm.

I"d like to add that prior to giving up and reverting, I did try every single suggestion Adobe has made in this thread. I even sent them files as they are asking so many of you to do. In fact, I see them reiterating the same, useless advice they gave me to you as well. Keep in mind that I started having the rainbow beachball issue almost a year ago. You would think that, for how much our subscriptions cost, they could have done some serious bug fixes in that year's time, don't you? But I see no effort on Adobe's part to fix any of this. It's quite ridiculous that this thread is still active after all this time and that people are still having the same issue. Yes, I can happily use my student version of CS6 InDesign. But then WHY am I paying $600 per year for a subscription for the latest and greatest??????????

Exact same problem here, contacted adobe about it and they said it's related to our network so they can't offer us support...

Many mac running the lastest OSX and InDesign have the same problem here, as soon as they are connected to our server, it's beachball hell. If we unmount the server for the mac, problem's solved... but we need our server connected in order to work.

Adobe Please do something about this, it's a huge issue for us and your software is not working as advertised, and we are paying too much money to adobe for them to ignore our complaints.

I'll pile on here and say that this is exactly my issue also. I'm in an office of around 10 graphic designers, and if any of us are connected to our server, it's beach ball for 90% of the time I'm in InDesign CC. If I disconnect from the server, the problem goes away immediately. It's like InDesign is constantly trying to do *something* in the background while InDesign is running. Me and my I.T. team have tried everything, but still can't find the issue.

If we find something, I'll post here ASAP.

I've done a fun little screen capture, is this the sort of thing that the rest of you are seeing? Here's the link:

https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/574262/dump/Indesign_2017_1.mp4

The UI locks up at about 20s, for over a minute, so it's not very interesting! The frenzied mouse movement is me trying to get the UI to wake up. I get a bit of interactivity back at 1:25, for about 15 seconds, then it locks up again. Needless to say I've downloaded the last working version (2015.1), this is working fine.

Using Windows10, 64Gb RAM, dual titan-X (Pascal) graphics cards, 1Tb SSD, 4Tb HD, A3 wacom tablet.

That's pretty much my world at the moment, and has been for a few weeks. Only difference is that I have the Mac "beach ball" spin during the lock up time.

In my case (and the case of my coworkers), it is absolutely related to the network drive (not the entire network, but just a specific drive). If I'm hooked to our graphics server, I freeze for 10-20 seconds every few seconds. Keep in mind that I don't have to be *working off* the server. I only need to be connected to it. If I disconnect and work locally, the problem solves itself 100% of the time, and all I have to do is reconnect to the graphics server and it starts again.

The weird thing is that it doesn't do it with every document, and it doesn't seem to matter *what* the document is regarding size/complexity. Probably 80% of documents though it freezes.

I'm about to pull my hair out, and my coworkers are in the same boat. We have varying computers, but in my case I'm on a late 2016 MacBook Pro. The others are on everything from 2010 iMacs to modern Mac Pros.

I'm still trying everything I can think of to fix the problem, but so far I'm out of ideas.

Unfortunately I'm still having the issue. I opened/worked-on a few documents, and at first it seemed to work, but it wasn't long before the hanging started again. It seemed to do it *less* if that makes sense, but it's definitely still hanging if I'm connected to our network server.

For further information in case it helps, I can explain the details a bit further and maybe others have the same issues:

• If I'm connected to our network server (in this case, the "graphics" server with all our company projects), I will get the hanging/freezing to where InDesign is essentially unusable. It gives me the "beach ball" every few seconds, and it can last anywhere from 10-30 second per beach ball (very similar to the video posted a few posts ago). Documents also open much slower than if I'm not connected to the server. Even if the document is on my desktop locally, it will take 20-25 seconds (estimated) to open a document.

• If I disconnect from the graphics server (just that volume), ALL of those problems vanish. InDesign opens the same documents in seconds, and the hangups are completely gone.

Unfortunately I have to connect to the graphics server because all our files are on there (links, etc.). In the past few weeks I've been moving everything I need to my computer locally, working, and then re-uploading everything to the server when I reconnect, which is obviously a huge drag on my work day. (I work for a large company with hundreds of SKUs that move between myself and the rest of us.)

I should also point out that this started when I went to the 2017 InDesign. Possibly Mac Sierra also, as I did those roughly the same time. My coworkers have the same story.

As of now, I'll keep working with the suggested fix and see if it improves. Thank you for the help!

Exactly what's happening here with our Macs and InDesign. Someone from Adobe will call me tomorrow, I'll keep your posted.

Hi everyone,

I'm going to be locking this thread - while the original question has been answered, numerous other issues have been brought up resulting in quite a lengthy discussion. I'll be branching out some of these responses into new threads.

The InDesign product team is working hard getting fixes out for the top issues many of you are experiencing. Thanks for your patience and we apologize for the frustration caused.

If you find a bug within InDesign, please submit a report here: Feature Request/Bug Report Form

Thanks,

Wren

I'm writing a text book with 340 pages in Norwegian. I have used Indesign for many years. Now suddenly Indesign is so slow I can't work any more. None of the tips mentioned above have helped. Very disappointing to experience this.

I ended up uninstalling 2017 and installing 2015.

Seems to be working.

It felt like a Wacom bamboo issue, but after reading this thread I think it's a far greater issue.
