i just upgraded to cc 2018. i have a large file that was working in indesign 2017. now it won't open. the app doesn't quit and no error message comes up. i am at a complete loss.
how can i reinstall indesign 2017 or is that not an option. i am working on a mac and this file has been problematic before but was opening fine last time i worked on it.

How in the world did you create a document so huge? The only possible explanation I can come up with is that you embedded all images and artwork.
That is a very risky workflow and the chances of you saving this file aren’t all that great.
If you can open it in CC2017 do so and unembed the images immediately and then do a save as so the images are linked.

I have a better advice. I will quit Adobe.

That’s your business but with your refusal to use accepted and safe workflow practices you’re likely to suffer with problems with any software you use.

Then ask Adobe to put an advice in their User Guide. I do not see any warning or any "safe workflow practice". They only mention the following note: "Embedded artwork is copied into the document at full resolution, resulting in a larger document." If they can't handle a 2GB file, IT MUST be written somewhere.

Unfortunately, you won't find good user guides in almost all software these days. You must get advice by taking classes, by coming to forums like this, by going to a website like InDesignSecrets.com.
Bob's advice is exactly what I teach in my InDesign classes.

I work as a pro designer since 1996. I use InDesign since the first version. I use to use the "embedded images" method for years and dozens of files without any problem. Until CC 2018. I don't need your classes. I need a working piece of software.
