Indesign CC2017 text box - spinning beach wheel

OS Sierra (10.12.1)

Adobe Indesign CC 2017 (12.0.0.81)

A frustrating being locked out of editing text, if I have text in an existing text box, go to edit it, I seem to be getting locked out. Spinning beach ball.

I thought I had found the answer by turning off preflight.

(Note: had checked external plugin - Extensis Suitcase Fusion, not the cause)

Anyone?

Note: have deleted preferences and caches.

You could see if the following solution works:

Goto preferences->advanced type and then turning of type contextual control check box at the bottom of the dialog box
