I was wondering, now that MacOS 15 has gotten released, are there any known issues with InDesign like we had with the last MacOS Sonoma update? Adobe hasn’t updated the system requirements yet to incllude Sequoia in the list, but they are not the fastest any more, also like we have learned last time.
I know, I’m not going to update to MacOS 15 right away anyways, cause I only have one working Mac nowadays, so I’ll wait for at least 15.1 maybe. Hope it’s not gonna be as stressful as last time.
Cheers guys

I'll state the obvious. Yes, you should wait but if you don't make a full system backup before you upgrade. This holds even if Adobe does announce that everything is fine.

Hi @SevenK,
I completely agree with Bob's suggestion. Even if Adobe confirms compatibility in the future, it's always best to make a "full system backup" before upgrading. This ensures you have a safety net in case anything goes wrong during or after the update. Better safe than sorry, especially when your work depends on it!
At this time, Adobe hasn’t officially confirmed compatibility with Sequoia for InDesign, so I recommend holding off on updating until it's listed in the system requirements and any potential bugs are addressed. Waiting until at least 15.1, as you mentioned, is a smart move if your workflow depends on stability.
Keep an eye on the Adobe support page for updates, and feel free to reach out if you notice any specific issues once you do upgrade!
Feel free to reach out if you need any further assistance!
Best,
Abhishek

Thnx guys for your replies. I totally agree with you and BobLevine on the Time Machine Backup before any update. I always have my Time Machine disk plugged in as soon as I start working anyways.

Merci.

Adobe never supports a new macOS that is just released. Even support for Sonoma took some months to be honest. For what I have read most issues were actually Apple related … or perhaps kinda both from Apple and Adobe. Who knows.
It's smart to wait things out, if you rely on your software for a living. Heck, I even wait for the first patches if Adobe launches new CC software. Adobe Indesign has always been the troublemaker from my own experiences.

I'm convinced there are bugs! I'm running Sequoia 15.0 with ID 2024. While inserting a picture box that floats with text all the text past the insert point disappeared. Although overflow showed lost text, it was not available, just produced empty text boxes. Also, reverting to last saved version did not return a workable file. I would suggest waiting for a more stable version. Perhaps not updating to Sequoia.

Thnx @w.g.wolfe that was exactly my question. The mod changed the subject of my question cause I didn’t ask if I should upgrade, but if anyone upgraded already and ran into any issues. Interesting that Adobe in the help doc says that pretty much the whole CC is compatible to 15.0. though

Hi @w.g.wolfe … just out of curiosity, did you update both MacOS to 15.01 and InDesign to the latest version 2005 (20.0.0.95) already? Do those bugs still occur with the updated OS and version of ID?

I have, and YES to both your questions. All appears to be working so far BUT constantly buffering after every other click of the mouse1

I just updated and ADOBE FONTS APP in Cloud doesnt exist ! ... I dont understand how they expect to actually work with their own fonts when it is not available 😕

That has nothing to do with Sequoia. Adobe apparently changed that if you click on the app in the app overview you will be redirected to the Adobe Fonts Website. You can still open the Adobe Fonts app to manage your installed fonts by clicking on the Adobe Fonts in the sidebar on the right on the home page of the CreativeCloud app.

I've installed both the new MacOS 15.01 and Adobe InDesign 20. After doing so, my InDesign has been running extremely slow, with the spinning ball annoying the hell out of me. I also read that the two software versions were compatible. Still got some bugs to work out. Please let me know if anyone has a work-around. Thank you.

Do you have the same ptoblem with InDesign 2024 (18.x)? You can install it from Creative Cloud app if needed

That might be worth a try. The only problem I have with that is I have already created a number of ID 2025 docs. No .idmls. I might try it though. I can always upgrade again. Hopefully, Adobe will get the workaround for this.
Thank you.

Have you guys tried resetting the preferences already? Start InDesign, while pressing Shift+Option+Command+Control. Click Yes when asked if you want to delete preference files. This sometimes solves the problems with an App. Have a friend whos Acrobat was crashing on her on every startup which was solved by deleting the prefs.

The beachball is a 100% InDesign 20.0 problem not a Sequia problem. I am on Sonoma 14.7 and tried InDesign 20.0 and it was beachball hell. Adobe knows this and is working on it.

Then there has to be some sort of other problem with your set up I would say, cause I’m also working with InDesign 20.0.0.95 on Sonoma 14.7.1 and have no problem at all. Maybe it's some sort of a font issue again? I ususally start troubleshooting with deactivating my fonts to a minimum and go on from there.

Yeah the font hell from 1984 continues in 2024. So strange how smart computers are and yet how stupid. Well, I'm not going to test fonts to make something new work where old 19.5 already works. I would think that's up to adobe and apple. Maybe AI will make their jobs easier and less mistake prone? I'll wait for ID 20.1 and try then if they say they've fixed it. I do not have anymore type 1 fonts in my system so it can't be that. At least it's easy to try a new Adobe app, unlike trying a new Mac OS and going through the hell of switching back. I will Apple would somehow make it easy to go back. I have in the past partitioned my drives and did it that way. I did upgrade my wifes MacBook Air M1 and Sequioa worked with 19.5. I didn't try hers with 20.0.

exactly, same problem happens with me.
i tried to install older version of indesign (19.0-19.5), none of it works with macos 15.1.
DO NOT UPDATE untill adobe make indesign stable with macos 15.1.
i was about to be fired because i can not use indesign.. (a joke but almost the situation i am in now )
