we rolled out a newly formatted Win 10 workstation and installed indesign. its got 8gb of Ram and half a TB of space. We can’t get it to open files larger than 10 MB. It becomes unresponsive for more than three minutes which is killing productivity since we have to make “touch and go” updates on dozens of files a day.
Another suggestion:
Disabling (or deactivating) unused/unnecessary fonts can improve your workstation's overall response time in digital media programs such as InDesign. Use a 3rd party font manager to do this.
You can also delete fonts with the Windows Fonts utility in Control Panel/Personalization and uninstall them. Or go to Windows/Fonts select the font, right-click, and delete. However, be careful if you delete the font files: they might be needed to run Windows or a program on your system. B

Hi Artba,
Please try removing preferences and cache of InDesign CC 2019 and try relaunching it.
Preference folder: C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Adobe InDesign\<Version #>\<Language>
Cache folder: C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Local\Adobe\Adobe InDesign\<Version #>\<Language>/

Be sure to copy and back up your fonts before deleting any so that you can reinstall something that's needed by an application.
There's also a known bug about this in the UserVoice forum, InDesign 2019 Fails to open properly and freezes. – Adobe InDesign Feedback
Note that some folks report that closing the top Control panel and using the new Properties panel instead clears up the lag time. Personally, I did not have that success on Windows.
