Indesign crash when opening text to image window

I am using a macbook air M3 up to date, and last version of Indesign.

Before the recent updates, the text to image tool worked fine. But recently, i cannot use it at all, for as soon as I open this tool, it makes indesign crash.
I tried to install the previous version, but did not make any difference.

Would it be a conflict between IOS and indesign ?

Other than that, Indesign works fine, as long as I do not open the text to image tool.

Thank you in advance for your help.

Try resetting your InDesign preferences. This is usually necessary after an update as newer versions of the program rarely respond well to preferences that were set for an earlier coded version. This process will restore the program to its defaults.

To reset preferences on a Mac:

The User Library folder in which InDesign’s preferences are stored is hidden by default on most Macintoshes. To access it make sure that InDesign is closed and click on the desktop to launch a Finder Window (Command-N). With this window in column view follow the path User>Home folder (it’s the folder with an icon that looks like a house—it may have the user’s name rather than “Home”) and click on the Home folder. With the Option Key pressed choose Library from the Finder Go Menu. “Library” will now appear within the Home folder. Within the Library folder find the folder called Preferences and within it find the folder called “Adobe InDesign” and the file called “com.adobe.InDesign.plist” and delete both that folder and that file. When InDesign is next launched it will create new preference files and the program will be restored to its defaults.

The advantage of manually deleting preference files in this manner is that after you’ve reset up the program (make sure that no document window is open) to your liking, you can create copies of your personalized “mint” preference files (make sure that you quit the program before copying them—that finalizes your customization) and use them in the future to replace any corrupt versions you may need to delete.

Thank you for you answer and sorry for the delay. I did what you said, but the result is the same, unfortunately.

Do you use Typeface font manager app for Mac - that is reported to cause problems with latest version of InDesign?

Hi, I don't think. I've just downloaded fonts from Adobe, that's all.

Hi @flo_3779,

I hope Bill and Robert’s suggestions helped(if not tried yet, please try). If still facing the issue, try running InDesign in Safe Mode and let me know if anything changes.

Also, have you submitted a crash report via the Adobe Crash Reporter dialog box? I checked using your community email but couldn’t find any logs. If you haven’t submitted one yet, please do so and share the email address you used via DM on the community, so I can have the logs reviewed by the product team. You can follow the steps here: Adobe Crash Reporter.

Meanwhile, please go through the troubleshooting steps in this generic crash guide and let me know if anything helps.

Looking forward to your update!

Hi @flo_3779,

Thanks for the update! I was able to find your submitted crash report and have already reached out to the product team for investigation. I’ll share an update as soon as I hear back from them.

From the logs, I see that you're using InDesign 20.1. Could you try updating to the latest 20.2 version via the Creative Cloud Desktop app and check if the issue persists? Let me know how it goes!

Looking forward to your update.

Hi @flo_3779,

Thanks for the update! The product team has reviewed the issue and suggested trying this again with the latest InDesign 20.2 version. Since you’re already on 20.2 and still experiencing the crash, could you share a short video demonstrating the issue? This will help the team investigate further.

Looking forward to your update!

Hi Flo,

Thanks for sharing the video. When InDesign crashes, did you get the crash report window, and have you submitted the crash report? Does that happen with all files or with the specific file?

Would you mind opening the Text to Image feature in InDesign on any other machine?

We will be happy to assist you further.

Thanks,

Harshika
