InDesign Crashes on duplicating text or object frames

I recently updated to the latest InDesign 2025 version via the creative cloud. Now every couple of hours when I am using it and I hold option and drag a text or object frame to duplicate it the program now crashes. It doesnt happen every time and when I reopen the program the drag to duplicate function works fine but then after a couple more files or an hour or two go by and it will happen again. These are all different files with different elements with no common link between them and it was not occuring before this latest patch.

Hello everyone,
Thanks for sharing the details. I tested this issue on macOS Sequoia and Windows 11 but was unable to reproduce it. Based on reports from users in this thread, updating to the latest Sequoia version has helped resolve the issue. I recommend giving that a try.
Thank you to the experts for their insights and suggestions! Adding to it, were any of you able to submit a crash report via the Adobe Crash Reporter dialog box? If not, please submit the report, ensuring you include your

...Hi everyone,
The InDesign 20.2 update is now fully rolled out and available for download. If you’re still experiencing crashes when using Option + Drag, I would highly recommend updating to 20.2 and testing again. Let me know if the issue persists!
Also, we’ve seen some reports of InDesign 20.2 crashing when closing documents, and the product team has isolated the issue to a conflict with the Typeface app. If you're using Typeface, please check out this thread: 20.2 Update - InDesign Crashes a

It seems to me that if an OS update fixes a problem, the problem was with the OS. It's entirely possible older versions of the software didn't trigger a hidden OS bug, while a newer version does. Only the programmers from Apple and Adobe know for sure.

I've been experiencing the same issue with option drag. I'm on a MacBook Pro M2 running Ventura 13.7. Upon upgrading to InDesign 2025, it crashes every time I option drag. Sent every crash report to Adobe. I went back to InDesign 2024, no problems. I uninstalled and reinstalled 2025. Option drag worked briefly but went back to its buggy self. Also the line stroke option wouldn't show the line end (arrows, etc) options. Here's the kicker, three designer co-workers have the exact same computer configurations and OS as I do, so I asked them if they were experiencing this problem and none of them said they were. Hope it's fixed soon. I'm not sure I want to move to Sequoia just yet. Thanks for all the helpful info!

Are you running InDesign 20.1? It appears that this bug was introduced in that version. If so, try to revert to an earlier version of InDesign 2025 (Creative Cloud app, find InDesign, then Other Versions menu). It fixed the issue for some users (although earlier versions have their own set of issues, some of which were fixed in 20.1).

Yep, it's 20.1. 2024 version is 19.5.2 which I mentioned I reverted back to and is working just fine. Just have to do a workaround for any recent projects done in 20.1, save as an idml file and open in version 19.5.2. Doesn't suck as much as 15+ crashes a day. Thanks for the reply leo.r!

Hi,
I've had the same issue with option drag in Indesign 20.1. It doesn't happen every time I use option+drag, but many many times. I'm on a iMac i5 2017, running Ventura 13.7.4. I also downgraded to version 19.5.2 which doesn't cause this issues, but it's a bit frustrating because I'm working with files from other designers and have to ask for the idml version.

That link does not work and leads to a 404 page.

I found a page after searching for it. FWIW a paying customer should not have to sign up for this program and sign an NDA just to fix a bug.

Thank you, I have the beta release and it's not present in that one currently so I'll keep using that one until the next revision releases of the main branch. I knew I wasn't crazy and that the actual dev team would not just be okay with it being out there like that.

Just a note that prelease is different than Beta, so they have different requirements/rules. If accepted, you will see both on your Creative Cloud app.

Use an older version and do not update it anymore. I'm using version 19.5.1, and it's the last stable version (without annoying popus) I'll be using before I switch to Affinity.
