Good afternoon all,

One of clients is currently using Indesign CS6 on a Windows 10 platform and is experiencing  random shutdowns of the program while actively working in files stored on a shared network drive.

The end user has done a good job of tracking times and events and I have isolated the error in the event manager to:  Faulting application name: InDesign.exe, version: 8.0.0.370, time stamp: 0x4f72c3eeFaulting module name: IMAGE.RPLN, version: 8.0.0.370, time stamp: 0x4f72c615Exception code: 0xc000041dFault offset: 0x000407b8Faulting process id: 0x3430Faulting application start time: 0x01d4e0231c676425Faulting application path: C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Adobe InDesign CS6\InDesign.exeFaulting module path: C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Adobe InDesign CS6\Required\IMAGE.RPLNReport Id: e0b42efd-8b24-43ff-b944-d2fb35e1b119Faulting package full name: Faulting package-relative application ID:

I have tried to reregister the public.dll and that did not work.

I have found info regarding the preferences folders and am considering reinstall of the software, however several have reported issues with reinstalling this version.

After it closes, he is able to reopen the file as expected and any work completed prior to the shutdown is there..

I realize it is an EOL product, but any suggestions would be helpful as the budget for the non profit is limited.

Thank you in advance for any and all assistance.

Shane

Beyond running it in Windows 7 compatibility mode, you’re on your own, unfortunately.

CS6 is almost 7 years old now and predates Windows 10. It is totally unsupported.

InDesign CS6 has never been supported for WIndows 10 but it has worked for many—until it didn't. The reason for this is that WIndows 10 automatically updates itself for most users so it is possible to go to bed one night with CS6 working and because of a Windows 10 update that ran overnight you could wake up with CS6 InDesign no longer running correctly, if at all. You can try running your PC in Windows 7 compatibility mode or reinstall an earlier version of WIndows (if this is possible for you). You might also want to get an older used PC from ebay to run CS6. Otherwise you will need to get a subscription to Creative Cloud and update to the latest version of InDesign.

Thank you both so much for your quick replies. I was afraid I was going to receive these responses, as I recommended an upgrade almost immediately upon learning CS6 was being utilized.

Hi shanef72214449 ,

your event manager's report is indicating that you are using InDesign CS6 version 8.0.0 which is the very first version of CS6. Not bugfixed at all. Update to 8.0.2 or to 8.1.0 if you can:

Adobe software and product updates

Regards,
Uwe
