Which version of InDesign exactly? I don't understand what “Original” means.
even before I upgrade to the latest Mac system
What is exactly the OS version? If you are on Sonoma, be sure that you upgrade to 14.3.

I don't think InDesign is currently supported on Sonoma. Check out the following article

Many users report issues with Sonoma. So I suppose if you are can't use a supported OS you will have to deal with these issues untill Adobe releases a version compatible with Sonoma.

macOS 14.3 should solve the known InDesign issues (mostly related to screen redraw).
Your issue - InDesign can't be launched - is uncommon but several other users did report the same issue recently. As far as I know, no resolution has been found so far.
Are you able to launch InDesign 2023? (You can install it from Creative Cloud app).

The latest Mac OS is 14.3.1
The latest InDesign is 19.2
Try updating and see what happens. If still having problems, uninstall (removing preferences) and reinstall after updating the OS.

I'd suggest restoring your InDesign preferences and caches. Here's how:

If that doesn't work and you're having that many crashes and difficulty installing and running, there may be serious corruption in your systsm. You may have to use the Creative Cloud Cleaner to remove all your Creative Cloud files so you can start fresh:
