Happened twice where I worked on a file for hours -days of a collection of portfolio work. The indesign software froze and crashed and after trying to open the same file I saved it would not open. This is how the file was "appearing" after the crash in the folder and this is the "error message".

Hi Andrewd,
Please try to trash your preferences before trying to open the document again. Please follow steps at: Troubleshooting 101: Replace, or "trash" your InDesign preferences
If you are still facing the crash, please send me your document for further investigation with some details:
1. What version of ID are you using? Please update to the latest, ID CC 2018.1(if not) and then re-try.
2. Also, please confirm in which version have you created the document
3. Also, please submit the crash report on crash reporter dialog, which pops right after the crash has happened. Mention you email in the email/description for faster search ability of your crash report
