Hello! On Windows 11, and the latest version of InDesign.
As stated in the title, it freezes/crashes when importing images or going into read mode.
Things I've tried:
- Resetting preferences
- Reinstalling InDesign
- Exporting the problem file to a different format
(Plus a number of other things that I can't remember the specifics of anymore, sorry)
Is there anything else I can try to fix this?

Hi,
Sorry to hear about the trouble. Can you confirm if it's happening while placing the image or while dragging and dropping the image? Is this happening with a specific file or format? Please confirm the exact version of InDesign and if possible, please share a small video of the workflow. We'll try our best to assist you.
Thanks
Rishabh

There is a version 20.3.
What platform and OS version?

Hi @imi_6439,
Thanks for reaching out. Please provide the details requested by the expert. Also, do you get the Adobe Crash Reporter dialog when InDesign crashes? If so, please submit the crash report with your email address included and DM me the email you used, so I can check the logs and get it investigated. Ref: Submit Crash Reports.
Could you also confirm if this happens with every file or just specific ones? And where are your InDesign and image files stored—locally, on an external drive, in a remote location, or in the cloud?
Looking forward to your update.

Hi @imi_6439,
Glad to hear reinstalling InDesign fixed the issue! If the crash happens again, you might need to enable the crash reporter manually.
To do this, open 'Command Prompt', enter this command:
`REG ADD HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Adobe\CommonFiles\CRLog /v "Never Ask" /t REG_SZ /d 0`
Press 'Enter', and if prompted, choose 'Yes' to overwrite.
Once the crash happens again, submit the report with your email and DM me that email so I can check the logs.
Let me know if you need any help!
