I use to be able to set up graphic frames as placeholders on a page. Then I could place multiple images by hovering over the edge of the frame, a little bracket would appear and then I could click and the picture would be inserted directly into the frame. It seems this either no longer a function or my settings have been changed. Now I have to either resize every image or insert one at a time and is cause major delays in my work output.
Any ideas? Thanks!

I tested this, and the images placed just fine.
Antoehr option would be to load the images on the cursor first, then as you drag acorss the page, use the arrow keys to create as many images boxes as you need. (Up arrow adds rows, right arrow adds columns). You will get an uniform gird with your images in the frames.

Still works here too in ID16.4-WIN10. Your description of the operation is missing some important details; are you sure you're not forgetting something?
Have you tried resetting preferences?

What other details to the operation would be important to give more context to the issue? Not sure what else to include.
I will say that the operation seems to be inconsistent. Sometimes it works and sometime it does not and I am not able to track what is different to make it work. The frames are consistently formated as graphic frames, set to fit proportionately, on the same visible layer. The files them selves are all multiple page PDFs. I have attached the layout I am using to place each page.

The only reason I can think of for it not working would be if there were items on layers about those boxes that were preventing the boxes from being targeted.
You should still be able to use the drag-and-arrow method; one click on the right arrow would result in the layout you show ( and you can control the gap by going under Layout > Margins and Columns and changing the Gutter amount)
