Since updating, I don't know what is going on, but I'm experiencing awfully slow performance from InDesign.
I have a MBP Retina 15 Inch 2.3Ghz, 16Gb Ram. Put it this way, I've never, ever experienced that slow feeling on this thing. Never. And suddenly after installing Mavericks, I'm experiencing that slow motion feeling.
Is it just me, or is anyone else getting this?
An update for InDesign CC (9.2) is now live and is available via the creative cloud installer. This update resolves several performance problems. In addition, the update includes epub enhancements, Typekit Desktop Font Integration and Hyperlink simplification. Please give it a try.

Just another reason why I avoid O/S upgrades and do clean installs.
Also violates rule one of computing: if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Yes, but Bob if we had to go by the "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" rule then none of us would ever have upgraded to the Creative Cloud products and none of us would ever install updates that claim to be the next best thing since sliced bread. In order to advance, we DO have to keep moving forwards. Altho' there may be troublesome steps along the way in doing so, we still need to keep moving forward....and then try to solve those issues as we do so...and we are trying to all do this as a team here:) I really love Adobe products and also depend a lot on them...and really want to make them work![]()

You're missing my point. There's a big difference between replacing a

I think you are correct. I have Mavericks on my machine and I have all the same problems as those above - CRAZY SLOW - (unuseable). A colleague in my office got Adobe CC same time as me and does NOT have Mavericks and she is running all programs fine.
I have tried resetting preference - it worked for a day the first time, a few hours the second time - and not at all the thrid time. Now the program will not even start. I uninstalled it and installed it again - still wont start up. It gives me this error:
"Error:
Unable to launch Adobe Indesign as you may not have sufficient permissions to access the preferences folders. Try deleting the preferences folders and then restart Adobe Indesign."
However, deleting the prefernces (or starting with Shift+Option+Command+Control) doesnt work either.
Basically I cant even turn the darn thing on now. I need my colleague to back save ALL my projects (I have over 30) to .idml so I can use CS6 (which works beautifully btw).
So far I have reinstalled Indesign CC three times. The first time I was on the phone with India for the entire day while they tried to trouble shoot. (seriously, it was over 6 hours on the phone). At that point there was some conflict with my old version of Indesign CS4 I still had on my machine. I have since delted the old program so that isnt the problem now.
I can honestly say that Adobe CC is the worst "upgrade" I have had in my 23 years of working with design software.

And yeah I guess I'll switch to CS6 for now.

not ideal? it's a disaster – of course i'm working with cs6 for the moment, but that's not what i bought cc for.

Ok, just a note, when ID becomes unbearably slow, the pref file I delete is +3mb... this happens for me at least after about 3 hours of solid working. I just checked the new pref fil created, after about 45 minutes of working and it's only 200kb. I don't know if that helps, but that seems a little odd to me.

What is the path to the preference file that your finding for CC?
I find an com.adobe.InDesign.plist but it does not appear to be for CC, only CS6. Or are you refering to the InDesign Defaults file?
Certainly the com.adobe.InDesign.plist (from CS6) would not be causing some conflict with CC would it. Some of you must have installed a clean 10.9 and CC without CS6 haven't you.

Oh thank GOODNESS I am not the only one experiencing the slowdown after a while. I know that's not good news for everyone else but at least I can know I am not alone in this. I have to emphasize that it is ONLY InDesign CC that is having these issues on my machine. All of my other CC apps are screaming fast right now....Photoshop CC, Illustrator CC, etc.

For me it is the same issue. I have dual monitors, running Mac OS X Mavericks 10.9, InDesign CC 9.1, and FontExplorer X Pro 4.0.2. When I turn off the panels, it's very fast. When they are on, things are slow in InDesign.

I'm having the same issues -- turned off all the window panes I could and reduce thumbnail size for pages -- also turned off Suitcase 5 even though I updated yesterday to 16.0.2
Takes almost 3 secs to go from the direct selct tool to the type tool -- highlighting, moving objects is stiil a chore.
This is killing myu production time

Instantly post-Mavericks install, InDesign CC is glitchy and slow like it is doing something else in the background - I am using FontAgent Pro 6.010 so it kinda hints at something else other than font handling issues. I too have twin displays using a 27" iMac i7 custom build and a 23" cinema display. Tabbing the controls pallette works for a short while seemingly but it is painful to work with - It's like there isn't enough RAM - I have 16GB and very little else open. This is ugly.

If it was working fine before the upgrade than blame the upgrade. While
there's nothing wrong with giving it a shot, you should always be
prepared for it to fail and to do a clean install.

Will a clean install resolve the problem or is it just a case of waiting for Adobe to find out the cause and fix it?

If you had no problems before moving to Mavericks I would point a finger
at that. If you were among those already having problems I doubt a clean
install will help.

InDesign CC worked fine before upgrading to Mavericks. With this in mind, do you think a clean install would solve the problem, and by clean install you do mean reverting to Mountain Lion (forgive me if that sounds stupid, never done this sort of thing before).
However, if you think Adobe might solve the issue within a certain timescale that's not too far away then I would be inclined to persevere.
Thanks

What I don't understand is the mad rush to "upgrade" perfectly working
machines. There are still applications out there that haven't been
updated for Mavericks.

I appreciate that Bob but I think it's probably a case of people not knowing to hold back on upgrades until they've experienced 'teething' problems like this.
It's only after experiencing a problem that you think next time you'll hold off for a few months before upgrading.
I just hope Adobe are working on resolving this issue as it seems specifically apparent with a lot of users operating OSX Mavericks. It would be good to have an idea of how long (even if it's based on historical timescales) it will be before the next update is released for Adobe Indesign CC.

Hi Bob
Normally I would concur with your premise of 'not upgrading until it is sorted' but in the real world, out here where the wild things are really happening it's the only way to find the cracks in an update. I agree with you if you can't be bothered with trying to provide feedback and putting up with annoyances and glitches and the like stay away.
Many of those of us who have upgraded early are on a learning curve AND helping to solve problems in the world where operating systems are actually being used on so many different machines in so many circumstances it is impossible to test for.
Every time I find a problem, I learn something new about the OS that I didn't know before and I, and we all, help a little. Right now i also have a problem with Apple Mail and the cursor position when editing text after using a magic mouse - it's about 1.5 character out. Odd huh? But that's just a little annoyance in the grand scheme of all things and also a teeny tiny adventure.
I have been using Adobe products for 20 odd years and there have been ups and down along the way but I earn my living this way and I want what I use to be good so i will provide feedback and questions where and when I can - I like to think I put something back.

You have the proper attitude to do this.
What I don't get is the people coming here after "upgrading" a perfectly
good production machine and saying "Fix it, Adobe!" when thing stop
working properly.

I feel exactly the same way as Mike Barlow:) I always like to stay ahead of the curve as well....I have just always been that way. So if troubleshooting steps are required to solve issues and problems, I am very willing to help:) This is how we learn...and this is when we learn a LOT.
Now, since there has been several mentions of CLEAN installs possibly being a fix, I went ahead and did that. I wasn't going to initially but the impulse hit me late last night and I am SO eager to see if that will help! I will keep you posted. I am still in the process of installing everything.
