Indesign Printing stops short

Community Beginner ,
Mar 12, 2024 Mar 12, 2024

Hello there

When trying to print lately from Indesign im experiencing the printer always stop and cut 1" shorter than the presets we set.

We use an EPSON 7900, but troubleshooting suggests its an InDesign issue.

So, if the print preset and page preset is to print something 24 x 24, it'll come out 24 x 23.

Has anyone experienced this...?

Export to PDF and print from Acrobat. Acrobat has a higher compatibility rate than any other application, specially InDesign.

Thanks for the reply...  hoping to figure out with InDesign, as we do a lot of printing, and its never given us this problem before...  wondering if i've toggled some button somewhere that I shouldnt have.... or if its a glitch in an update maybe...

Platform and OS version?

InDesign version?

We are not mind readers...

Thanks Robert..  Using:

MacOS Sonoma 14.3.1.

InDesign v19.2

EPSON Stylus Pro 7900 (with latest driver installed)

It very well could be a printer issue, as it consistently lops off one inch from whatever paper size I've specified in the page setupo / print dialogue boxes...  have been printing fine, until it just began doing this...

LATEST

Everything has been updated (since dealing with this) - i dont think I had updated anything prior to it happening, but i cant quite recall...  Uninstalled InDesign and reinstalled, same with printer from print dialogue (and updated to newest driver from EPSON site).  MacOS was already updated to latest OS

Are you printing to paper that is close to the size of your image dimensions? Most printers do not print all the way to the edge as they use one edge of the paper for the gripper. If you are using large enough paper then make sure that the correct paper size is indicated in your Document Setup as well as in the Page Setup area of your Print dialog window.

@Bill Silbert

With this printer, @Douglas36036105f5sy can use paper on a roll - so virtually no margins.

Robert, yes, and had left room for a 1" white border around the print image, and its that last inch at the bottom thats not being cut.  It does leave an eighth of an inch at end of the print before cutting.  Again, so something 24x24 in all dialogue boxes etc ends up being 24x23 ...

Thank you Bill.  Using an EPSON Stylus Pro 7900, with Roll Paper (enhansed matte)...  everything is set up correctly in the dialogue box and print settings.  Hence being bewildered.

Have you tried exporting to PDF and printing from Acrobat - as suggested?
