Undo steps disappear automatically while working.
Undo history resets to ~3 entries without any undo action being triggered.
This happens reproducibly every ~10 seconds.
Preflight is disabled.
Reproducible in:
- new documents
- local files (no cloud documents)
- fresh installs
- multiple machines
Windows 11.
Photoshop is not affected.

Hi everyone,
Thanks for taking the time to share all the details and reports here. I wanted to let you know that a bug has been logged for this Undo history issue, and the product team is actively investigating it. I'll keep this thread updated as soon as I have more information to share. ...Hi everyone,
Thanks for your continued patience and for sharing detailed reports here. I want to reassure you that this issue is still actively being worked on by the product team. They're investigating the root cause and making progress, as this is understandably impacting workflows.
I know this has been frustrating, and I appreciate you bearing with us. As soon as I have any concrete updates or next steps to share, I'll post them here right away.
Thank you again for your patience.

I have this issue even with my integrated video INTEL(R) HD Graphics 4600 on a Core(TM) i7-4790 CPU @ 3.60GHz 3.60 GHz with 16GB of RAM. It's a XPS8700. Used it for years with all Adobe software and never, ever, had any issues!

Another 16gb ram machine with the same issue. I don't think anyone with more ram has the issue... what about less? Wonder if there's anyone struggling along with 8gb, but without this issue.

For the record only:
The following InDesign bugs, which have only appeared since December, are currently the most annoying:
1. History/Undo function. The problem with this is not only that only a few steps can be undone, but that it is NOT the last steps. Rather, it is a few steps from the last ten/twelve steps that Indesign apparently selects arbitrarily.
2. Hiding the text or a part of it in a text frame when editing the text within that text frame.
3. Cannot change tools via the tool palette.
4. Pages cannot be switched using the page palette.
5. Vertical shifting of the side view when copying elements.
Error 1 is a permanent error, errors 2 through 5 are sporadic errors.
However, I will NOT open a separate thread for each of these errors. It is enough if the Adobe Service Team becomes aware of it and finally fixes the bugs.

Hi @Outdesing,
Thanks for taking the time to clearly outline the different issues you're seeing. For the Undo history behavior you mentioned in point 1, the product team is already aware of this and is actively working on a fix. I'll make sure to share updates here as soon as I have more information.
Regarding point 2, where text or parts of text disappear while editing a text frame, we'll need an affected sample file to investigate further, as we haven't been able to reproduce this in-house yet. Ref: https://adobe.ly/49izI4y
For the remaining points you listed, I have't been able to reproduce the behavior described in points 3 through 5 on my end so far. To help us understand what's happening in your workflow, could you please share a short screen recording showing those issues when they occur?
Looking forward to your update, so we can take this further.
Abhishek

Hi Abhishek, hoping this is not considered a "nothing to do with the topic", regarding the point 2 you mentioned, please find a couple of screenshots, one that shows the problem of the paragraph disappearing text, selected (in violet) or not, the second one with the "reappeared" text after a page up/page down, or a zoom in/out.

Hi @abhishek,
thanks for your feedback. And sorry for not getting back to you sooner, I've been on vacation since January 2nd. Unfortunately, I cannot readily provide you with screen captures of the problems I described in points 2 through 5, as these problems, as I said, occur only sporadically. And because I don't know beforehand if and when a specific problem occurs, I can't record that, of course.
I'm aware that it's difficult for you to reproduce the problems that occur when you don't have the corresponding user screenshots. Nonetheless, I wish you a lot of success, and above all, quick success in eliminating the bugs.
Best regards
Outdesing

It's currently an ongoing issue on Windows:
There's no known solution at this point, as far as I know. Still, make sure to update to the latest version, InDesign 21.1, just in case.

Adding my computer specs as well, sorry for the delay, hope they help narrow down the issue.
Dell Latitude 5450 laptop. Windows 11 Enterprise 23H2. Intel Core Ultra 7 165U 1.70 GHz Processor. 128 MB Intel Graphics Card. 16 GB RAM. 142 GB free storage on a 256 GB Hard Drive.
Undo/History problem was first noticed for me on Friday Decemeber 12, 2025. Was using Indesign v21.0.2. Rolled back to v20.5.1 and the issue still existed, and have updated to v21.1 and the issue still exists.
Hope this helps.

Danke!

Was helfen könnte: GPU ein/ausschalten.

LG, Birgit

What you describe is not a new problem, it's been with us for years now. You can fix the display of such text frames (or columns) by nudging the text frame -- moving it up and down a bit, making it a fraction taller then shorter again. That usually fixes the text column, though after more edits the problem may come back. It's very annoying.
