InDesign Undo history clears itself without user action

Undo steps disappear automatically while working.
Undo history resets to ~3 entries without any undo action being triggered.

This happens reproducibly every ~10 seconds.

Preflight is disabled.

Reproducible in:
- new documents
- local files (no cloud documents)
- fresh installs
- multiple machines

Windows 11.
Photoshop is not affected.

Just tried installing the indesign beta version (to check if  it also has this problem) and converted a file to open it... but the beta version has the same issue.

Same issue here!

Windows 10, plenty of RAM, only InDesign opened.

My history states to 4, 5... then they clear themselves automatically every few seconds.

Did anyone try to install the older version available in CC? InDesin 20.0?

Oh Zeus, how I miss the old Adobe CS6 package...

I've gone back to 20.5 and the problem still persists. My personal desktop computer doesn't show this issue though, it's still on windows 10... not sure if there's been a windows update that indesign doesn't like. Seems odd that the older versions start doing it too.

I'm having same issues, both undos disappear and text hides until screen redraw. WIn 11 pro, 16gb mem, intel i7 2.90ghz.

I just noticed that just before my history resets, you see indesign 'reading' some images. (you see the message next to the preflight message in the bottom bar).

I recorded it.

I'm just moving one image around on the page here... nothing else.

also happens while typing etc...

Also adding to this. During editing the text in a frame or table. the whole frame turn into white and it goes away, but once I zoom in, the text show again. This glitch I'm sure that is connected to the memory issue like the history issue.

OH! Yes! I have this issue too! My text/story gets completely white (invisible) for a while from time to time. Then, I switch between display performance modes and it gets back to normal.

Yes! I'm having both of these issues (history vanishing and contents temporarily going white) now that I'm using 2026 instead of 2024. (I tried 2025 a few months ago, but it was so slow for me that I went back to using 2024 and waited for things to get better. So far 2026 doesn't have the speed problem, but there are these issues.)

Yes. We all have the same issues with Indesign here in the office. "Undo" issues and text temporarily disappearing partially or for a full page and then when scrolling up or down it appears again, like a visual glitch. Hopefully these issues can be resolved with a hotfix because this is affects our workflow a lot.

I dare to put here a short summary of the issue and possible cause of it, because I see "the experts" start to patronising us instead of being of any help. Please read this before you come up with another unproven speculations. Facts: 1) The problem we have [resetting history + disspaearing text] is devastating for our work; 2) Came out of the blue on the same systems and hardware we were nicely working on untill the 21.x updates [Windows, plenty of RAM, good graphics adapter - just as it is for most people dealing with professional layouts]; 3) None ideas so far were of any help [clearing preferences, resetting, rollback, etc.] 4) The problem is rooted in software itself and apparently it originates from the new InD architecture where the history is no longer simple and linear but more and more fused with shared document-state system: previews, GPU performance, dynamic UI panels, view synchronization, recovery etc.; 5) It's kind of a bug but deeply rooted - someone need to take of care of this fast and effectively.

Yes, yes, yes! This is devastating for my team. If I'm told the issue is overset text one more time I will lose my mind. Nearly every time I type or backspace, paragraphs disappear. I have to zoom in and zoom out--that at least doubles project time.

I called Adobe today on their 800 line. The tech support guy had no idea
what I was talking about and wanted me to send a screenshot. Ok, what would
that do? A screenshot of an empty text frame... I am really disappointed in
Adobe. This buggy program should never have been released. It should not
take a month to fix a bug. It should not be crickets from tech support.

I have exactly the same problem, it has been a real bother for about two days now, glad to see I'm not the only one struggling with that! And the erasing history issue too, hoping they'll find something to help with the issue... I'm linking a video of the history issue as I'm incapable of recording the text disappearing one. Hope it helps! I've cleared my preferences too.

In our graphics department the problem described here has been occurring at three of seven workstations since yesterday. Two of three computers are running Windows 11, and one is still running Windows 10. The InDesign version used is 21.0.2 in each case, and the hardware on all seven computers is nearly identical (e.g., 16 GB RAM each).

All the proposed solutions described in this forum have been tried, unfortunately without success. An earlier version of InDesign was also installed, but the described problem occurs there as well. It's strange that this problem doesn't occur on four computers in our department...

Recently, additional errors have sporadically occurred at workstations affected by the described problem: When editing a text, the entire text within the text frame is suddenly hidden. It is only visible again after scaling or scrolling the text.

Thanks in advance for a quick solution to the problems.

Also been having the text disappear issue as well, which ive seen other posts about. Hopefully another issue that will get fied and looked at soon, though its not nearly as disruptive as this Undo/History problem.

This is very similar to the bugs I have seen this week. And like this poster, the workstation next to mine is not having the problems I am having (disappearing history and disappearing text until selecting the frame or scrolling). 

I installed a Windows update immediately prior to the appearance of these issues. "Security Intelligence Update for Microsoft Defender Antivirus - KB2267602" not sure if this is related.

Ich habe folgendes Problem: Mein Protokoll in InDesign merkt sich plötzlich nur noch die letzten 1-2 Schritte und ersetzt die vorigen Änderungen. Somit kann ich über STRG + Z nur die letzten ein oder zwei Schritte zurück gehen. Sobald ich etwas anderes mache (einen neuen Textrahmen, Objekt verschieben) wird das Protokoll überschrieben mit diesem Schritt. Dies geschieht bei all meinen Dateien. Habe den Rechner neu gestartet, andere Anwendungen geschlossen.. nichts hilft. In den Voreinstellungen habe ich auch nichts dazu gesehen. Version ist 21.0.2.
