When I purchased InDesign, I suddenly started getting popups on Acrobat saying I needed to buy Acrobat. Is it possible to use the free version of Acrobat while using the paid version of InDesign? If so, how can I disable the popup so it's useable?
(I discovered one workaround - I can use Acrobat in my browser. But it would be more convenient if I could also use the desktop app.)

Yes, you can there is no dependence of InDesign on any version of Acrobat. These are independent applications.

The "free" version of Acrobat is Adobe Acrobat Reader, not Adobe Acrobat Pro. In Acrobat Reader, you can view, print, and comment, but not much more.
See this help page for the differences in versions. If you want to tweak a form that you created in InDesign, for example, you cannot do that in the free Reader.

What page did you use to download?
I suspect that using the link in the CC Desktop app will be a problem and I would try using https://get.adobe.com/reader/

Thanks, I just used that link and my computer said the application was already downloaded. So that didn't work. 😞
I need to use the desktop Acrobat Reader app to fill out a form, and I just got a free trial so I can use it, which I will have to remember to cancel in a few days. This pisses me off. I should not have to purchase a free trial to use features that are supposed to be free at all times. If anyone has suggestions, I'm all ears. Thanks!

After you cancel the trial. try removing Acrobat with the CC Cleaner tool (Use the Creative Cloud Cleaner tool to solve installation problems ) which should remove any traces of the previous install, then try the free download again.

Acrobat Reader is free and you can use it to fill out forms. You absolutely do not need a subscription to the free Reader to fill out a form. The free Acrobat Reader for desktop is what you want and need.
There is a paid version of "Acrobat Reader for Mobile" with premium features, including Edit PDF, Export PDF, Combine Files, and Organize Pages. It does not work on Reader for desktop, and this is not what you need or are looking for.

Acrobat Standard, Pro, and Studio are by subscription and have free trials. See the earlier link in this thread. You don't need these either, so be sure to cancel the trial before it rolls into an annual commitment if this is what you accidentally chose instead of the free Reader.
