Issue with 'Save' Button Being Unresponsive in InDesign 20.0

I can't press save in Indesign, the gray bar that can't be pressed and some other commands can't be used. But what really disappoints me is that I've been working for 2 hours of recording. Normally I set it to save automatically, but this time the program didn't save and I still can't save to close the program. I have to force close the program and when I open the file, I find that I have to work again. What? I didn't pay for the license to encounter something like this.

in v 20.0

Hi @MTchita,

Thank you for reaching out, and I understand how frustrating it must be to lose your work.

Typically, the "Save" option is grayed out in InDesign when:

  1. The document hasn’t been modified since the last save.
  2. There may be an issue with the file permissions.
  3. A corruption or conflict occurs with the document.

To better assist you, could you please share the following details:

  1. The operating system you’re using.
  2. A screen recording demonstrating the issue you're experiencing.

Looking forward to your response!

Best,
Abhishek Rao

I see that according to the thread that leo.r posted a link to that deleting preferences does not provide a lasting fix for this. What I am wondering, though, is are you using any third-party plug-ins either with InDesign or your operating system? If so try disabling them and after a computer restart open only InDesign and see if the problem persists. If it now works correctly then try adding the plug-ins back one at a time until the problem starts again. This should identify the source of the problem. You can then either try and find a compatible version of the plug-in or simply stop using it.

You should try restoring your InDesign preferences in InDesign 20.0.

Go to Preferences > General. At the bottom of the panel to "Reset Preferences on Quit".

See if that solves the problem.
