Issues with variable font: Russolo

Community Beginner ,
Mar 08, 2021 Mar 08, 2021

I have done a number of designs using a free variable font called Russolo, with letterforms that contain both thin and thick strokes I have adjusted the weight and optical size .of individual characters somewhat.

There appear to be issues with exported PDFs, where some of the thin strokes disappear or look too thick. This has happened at all sizes of the PDF.

Also, when printing this font, the letters are slightly blurry or pixellated. Not a lot, but enough that my client is noticing it. Other tpe in the same documents look fine.

Question: has anyone else experienced picellation or blurriness/fuzziness when using variable fonts?

To add to this: In addition to the odd weight mix on screen display or the incorrect spacing for bolder faces on variable fonts in 2024, variable fonts do not outline correctly. The outlined objects do not create compound paths correctly for character elements that join (example: bottom bar of lower case e crosses over onto spine of letter) causing effect and trap errors. Bug reported!
