Items duplicating on individual pages in in Design

I'm new to In Design, but not to Adobe. I created a spread of two parent pages. I then applied them to a couple of two page spreads. With page 2 highlighted I added something to the page. When I go to page 4 the item is there too. If I delete it from page 4 it also  disappears from page 2. It does not show up on the parent page.

Any ideas?

Are you dead certain you weren't working on the Parent page? That's the only explanation I can think of that makes sense.

It's not highlighted in blue, and when I double click on the parent page
icon it highlights and the item isn't there. I'm stumped. I can send
screenshots later.

Although I took screenshots to prove I wasn't crazy, when I came to my
computer this morning, it had resolved itself. The tech gremlins were
definitely after me yesterday - I also had issues in an unrelated area.

Can’t count how many times I've designed a document on the parent page. Only notice when I can't go to page two.

I took screenshots, and the item was definitely not on my parent page (it's
the first thing I thought of), but duplicated on the other pages. Anyway,
this morning, as I came to reply to offers of help, it had resolved itself.
It seems like it was just a bad tech day for me - unrelated issues popped
up elsewhere.
