I have explored the various You Tube videos looking for a method to link a placed Excel file in InDesign and have been unsucessful. Is there a way to link excel files so that a revision in the excel file shows up in the placed InDesign table.
Thanks in advance to those who know more than me,
Joe

Hi there,
Thanks for reaching out. You may check out the help article https://helpx.adobe.com/indesign/using/data-merge.html#update_data_fields to know about Data merge.
Hope it helps.

Ashutosh

For proper updating, all formatting must be done with strictly Table and Cell Styles. I like to create a "dummy" table to create my styles first, then I delete the dummy table.
In Excel--if necessary, you can name your worksheets and create named regions for importing sections of a large spreadsheet.
The process in InDesign
Your Excel file will show the yellow triangle update icon when it needs updating.
Click on icon or use Links panel to update.
NOTES:
If you are doing a lot of this, you may want to look at Em Software's WordsFlow plugin.

Alternatively, do all the styling in Excel and place it as a formatted table.

For simple tables that could work. Microsoft uses RGB coloring, so if one is (commercially) printing the file, I would take a quick trip to Acrobat Pro and convert the RGB blacks to 100K to be safe.
