Locking up

Explorer ,
Mar 01, 2019 Mar 01, 2019

I have a multipage file, currently almost 700 pages and almost 90 MB. I am having trouble saving, exporting, and general edits. I would hate to have to break it into multiple documents but figure it is a high possibility. Is there a general size these need to be to be functional, without waiting a half hour to save and unlock itself?

What version of InDesign? What operating system? What are your system specs for RAM, processor, harddrive.

700 pages in just one file is a very bad idea. For as much as you might hate it, you'd be much better off using the Book features of InDesign.

I'd split the file into files on the basis of sections or chapters. If there are "independent" spreads with complex graphic information (an infographic, for instance), I'd put that in it's own InDesign file. The basic rule: Split whatever weights and does not flow text. Of course you have to use automatic numbering.

The flexibility and ease of use that an inDesign Book offers for long documents is awesome. And to me, 700 sounds like a long document

Best regards

That is what I feared, they are business cards so I try not to split them up so I don't have to search multiple files for existing names.

Business cards as "calling cards"? Then you might try Data Merge features.
