I'm new to InDesign and have followed several tutorials on how to insert page numbers on master pages, but when I go through and try to set them up using a new text box and going through the type menu>Insert special characters>Markers>current page number. It creates an "A" on the master page like it should but then it remains an A on all other pages, it does not create numbers.
Is there anything I'm doing wrong or a different way I can try and make page numbers?

Have you tried doing this in a different document? Set up a new document and see if the same issue occurs.

Yes I have tried it in a different document and it still displays a letter "A" on all pages

You did look at this on the live pages, right? Sounds like you’re just creating new masters.

So you are drawing a text frame on the master page, and then choosing Type > Insert Special Character > Markers > Current Page Number, and not typing the letter "A", right?
