Master page set-up

New Here ,
May 02, 2018 May 02, 2018

Hello there,

I need to set-up a master page for a book. I work with Adobe İndesign CS6.

I’ll have two columns (text frames) on the left pages (even numbered pages) and one column (one text frame) on the rigth hand side (odd  numbered) pages. I have three different text in three different colors. Red text, blue text and green text. Red text should flow on the first column on every even numbered pages. Blue text should flow on every second column on every even numbered pages. And green text should flow on the only column of every odd numbered pages.

My question is; how should I connect these text frames with each other so that when I import the red text from MS Word it should flow only the first column on every page, and the same thing for blue and green ones.

Thanks in advance for your help.

The picture below hopefully explains it.

1. On the master spread, you have three frames and no frames are threading. (picture shows no threading)

2. On the document page, when you get the loaded cursor hold down the SHIFT key before you place the content. You want to get the AutoFlow icon with the parenthesis then place it in the frame of choice. That Frame with AutoFlow and add new pages to the document. (picture shows AutoFlow going into an existing frame and creating a frame automatically usin

You don’t connect them. Flow text into one text frame and InDesign will add pages (hold Shift when you place) until there are enough pages for all the text. Since the text frames are not connected InDesign will add pages and continue to use the same frame on each new page or spread.

Edit: The two column page must be two text frames, not one two-column frame.

On your master spread, you will have 3 separate text frames. You will have to create separate text frames for each column for the left hand page, as opposed to one text frame with 2 columns. You will have to import each document separately, but will be able to autoflow each into their appropriate columns.
