hello, I need help with something I am working on and I have tried a few things like adjust the text frame, applied different masters to this page and such but I have no luck as to figuring out why this page number element will not show on this part of the doc. I do not want to start the whole document over again for one simple little thing like this.
master page element
page with the master page
page with master page applied in question

In InDesign the # doesn't trigger the page number.
Use menu Type > Insert Special Character > Markers > Current Page Number.
Of course you can place text before and behind.

the # is from the system settings to help me see paragraph elements like spaces, returns, and such. it's not really typed in

Sorry, you are right - I should have known ...
On your screen shot of the master page shouldn't there be the letter "A" where the page number will be inserted?
And where should the page number be? Beneath the "Mixe"?
Did you apply a character or paragraph style?

no worries. it is MIXE because the master page is called "mixed services", so I believe the A is not there cause usually by default the A will apply if I leave the master page name to default. For the paragraph styles I do have it applied to the text in question.

I meant the "A" that's the placeholder for the page numbers.
I can't see one on your screenshot. Where is it?

A for A-master, B for B-master and Mixe for Mixe-master... 😉

Are you sure you didn't accidentally override and delete the element?
What happens if you reapply the master to your page?
If no luck, could you share an idml?

OK.
An *.idml would be helpful.
