Create a new layer and place all the elements on your master page in the topmost layer. Put everything else on the layer(s) below.

F7 brings up the layers panel.

You can contol things very precisely using layers. Master objects are always behind any objects drawn or placed on the document page, ON THE SAME LAYER, but the layer stacking can bring bing some master items in front of live-page items and leave them behind other.

I don't understand. Could you say more? Do you mean you need to override master page items on the live document pages, and then move those to a layer above other graphic elements?

Absolutely not!

Add one or more layers on top of all layers and reserve them for objects on the master pages.

Go to your master spread and drag all objects to the added layers.

Uwe

Thanks Uwe. I guess my confusion started because in the layers panel it's page specific, that had confused me. Now I understand your technique. Very cool! I had for months thought "boy that's dumb you can only put Master Page elements at the back." Not so.

Thanks, Steve. I wasn't sure if we had a way to do that, if we were not the OP.

I like to keep things tidy, Bob. Hah! Actually, I didn't even notice the date. The problem comes from the "More Like This" link. I forget that it's really not a useful set of links...especially because they are often ancient threads. However, it's good to have it marked as correct because Google is still going to find this and it's good to know the solution worked. Most people won't notice the date, either. And also I learned who can and can't mark an answer correct. Haha!
