My file wont open, please help

Hello, my Indesign file won't seem to open. I keep reciving this message: 

"The network connection was lost for the file Portfolio_Sebastian Cardoza.indd, or the file was modified by another process."

The file that I am attempting to open is on an external hard drive. I tried pruchasing a new cord but that did not seem to work. I would greatly appreciate some assistance with this issue.

Did you try to drag your file on your desktop and open it ?

When I try that, I receive Error code -36. I am unable to copy the file over.

Try duplicating it where it sits. If even that doesn't work, the file is probably toast and you'll have to go back to your last good backup. And watch out for that drive, it might be on the verge of failure.

I attempted to copy the file within the external drive and received the same issue. (Error code -36)
