OpenType Font getting the Type 1 Font Alert?!

I got the allert that my document was using Type 1 fonts.

So I went to the Adobe Font manager and picked out a new font to use.

I replaced all the fonts in my Document with the new font.

I still get the alert message telling me I am using Type 1 fonts.

The Font name is Niveau Grotesk, and it is showing up in InDesign as a OpenType Type 1 font.

What is the deal???

Is this font going to me depricated? 

Why am I still getting the alert message?

Confusingly "opentype type 1" is not going away. You need to look for fonts that are just "type 1".

No. You'll be fine. It seems the algorithm is a bit aggressive right now (There have been lots of reports of this happening). The Find/Change box will list any fonts in use, of course, and may list NO Type 1 fonts in use, but the warning algorithm will also find Type 1 fonts in Unused Styles (including the default Basic Paragraph), or any default font you may have set for the program itself even without a document open. These won't necessarily show in the Find/Replace list.

Places to check:

Before you check your current document...

Without ANY document open, check what font is specified in the Type > Characters panel (Command/Ctrl-T). As installed, ID usually has Minion set as default, but if it's anything else, see if THAT font is Type 1 and if so, change it accordingly.

Without ANY document open, check what font is specified in Basic Paragraph Style (or any others you may have added to the program default), and change accordingly.

Now, do the same with any current document.

However the big issue being seen right now is many are seeing a warning saying that MANY Type 1 fonts are in their documents when the list is empty; and this seems to be tied to it flagging fonts listed in a hidden XML metadata associated to the document. Adobe will have to look into this and modify how it does its checks, but for right now, it's annoying.

I have one case of a document where no PostScript Type 1 is actually used in the document.

Not in a paragraph style, not in a character style and definitely not in formatted text.

Still the message pops up. This document was not done by me.

I assume that in the past Type 1 fonts were used in the document and this information sticks to the document's code and is not removed when I do Save As or export to IDML and try to work on with a document saved from the IDML file.

This is my experience as well. As a test, I just opened an old 8-page document from 2011 which had a multitude of fonts but only had six Type 1 fonts in use, with no extra unsused styles, etc.

Saved it as an IDML and opened the XML to find Resources > Fonts had a list containing 65!!! references to Type 1 fonts that, yes, I did use regularly back then (common ones like Times and Univers), but are not in the document/styles nor are they even loaded on my current System.

I moved the 8 pages into a brand new document and saved that as IDML. The list now contained only references to the six Type 1 fonts I had in use.

I'm not saying that what I'm describing is what is wrong with your document specifically, but when I open a file that has a font warning, many times it turns out to be that the last person who worked on the file had a text frame with no type in it that had the font as an insert point. This happens if an empty frame that was being used as a shape was accidentally clicked into with the type tool, and changed from an unassigned or graphic frame to a text frame. When I find those, I change the content to graphic (my personal choice, but you can use unassigned if you prefer).

Other times it's not a visual character that you could see when looking, but a white space or a break space of some sort. Of course, all of these will be identified if you open Type>Find/Replace Font, click the problem font in the list and hit Find First, but I get the impression that this isn't finding the problem font for those of you posting here.

Hilight the entire text see if it shows nothing in the font selection. You could have a space of a type one font that is causing the problem.
