Paragraph Border and Inline Graphic

When using a paragraph border with an inline graphic, there is a large gap between graphic and text. I know I can adjust the bottom offset to close the gap. But this is a directory and company logo frame size will vary along with the gap between logo and text. In my screen capture, the top was made with a table and there are no gaps. Bottom shows the paragraph border method.

What are your suggestions to use paragraph border and create a seamless vertical rule like the top? TIA

  1. I would do it the following way:
  2. Each part has its Paragraph Style, also where the Logo is, as anchored frame, defined by the Logo's Object style.
  3. Sort out next style in the Paragraph style
  4. Make an example and apply with the paragraph menu a left line with the Text frame function, not yet with any paragraph Style.
  5. Go with the curser in the first paragraph and in the paragraph style menu > Redefine style.
  6. Do it with all other paragraphs also, not all at once, but one for step 5 again.

Be aware that the leading in the logo paragraph must be auto or at least as high as the logo graphic is.

Hi @Jeffrey_Smith ,

all what Willi said. And:

Base all your 8 paragraph styles of this directory on a single one that holds all mutual formatting elements, let's name this the Directory Basic. Do exceptions from that in the child paragraph styles.

Important: Do not base Directory Basic on the [Basic Paragraph Style], but base it on the [None Paragraph Style].

If you want to keep all single entries of a particular directory entry together follow this rule:

Check the option "Keep with Previous" in all paragraph styles except the first one for the logo.

Keep option with previous set in Directory Basic:

CascadeOfParaStyles-KeepOptions-Directory-BASIC.PNG

Keep option with previous still set with the first style for the paragraph that holds the logo:

CascadeOfParaStyles-KeepOptions-FirstParaStyle-ON.PNG

Keep option with previous unchecked:

CascadeOfParaStyles-KeepOptions-FirstParaStyle-OFF.PNG

Also use the Next Style option after you did all 8 paragraph styles, so that the next style of paragraph style 1 is paragraph style 2, the next one for 2 is 3 and so on; the next style for paragraph style 8 is paragraph style 1. This circular next style method is useful if you want to format all unformatted text in one go.

All unformatted text selected; the [Basic Paragraph Style] is used for all the text.

Hover over the first paragraph style (do NOT click it!) and then do command "Apply 01 Logo-ParaStyle and then next style":

ApplyFirstParaStyle_AndThenNextStyle-1.png

Result: All selected text is formatted with the 8 paragraph styles in the right order:

Thanks Willi and Uwe. The one thing I neglected to mention was the paragraph border (vertical rule) would be applied to certain companies, but not all companies.

Originally I considered applying the paragraph border to logo, or to entire range of listing, but the approach I decided to take is to apply a paragraph border to the last line "see our ad..." aligned to baseline, and use a top offset, with a distance that will reach approximately to the top of logo. I will need 2 versions of style: one for wide horizontally logos, and a second style (with a larger offset) to accommodate deeper logos.
