Pict files that don't appear in Links window

We have had a couple of InDesign documents submitted form off site where linked images are reading as the pict file format in preflight, while not appearing in the links pallet. It appears that all metadata is being stripped. We have been able to coordinate reestablishing the links with the proper assets through communicating with the designer, but would prefer to find a way to prevent the information from being lost in the first place.

The files are being transferred to our site via FTP.

Thank you.

It sounds like more of a matter of educating your client. They probably copied a file directly from Photoshop and pasted it into InDesign.

You need to provide a set of guidelines of things NOT to do.

This is the way a graphic looks when copied from Photoshop into InDesign. NOTHING appears in the Links panel. If you look at the Layers panel, you'll just see "<pasted graphic>"
