Pie Charts in InDesign

Hi,

Can you create pie charts like the ones in the attached image? If so, how?

Do it in another software like Illustrator and place it in InDesign.

They are relatively easy to make in ID. It is pretty much the same as using Illustrator.

Make two circles, center them. I color them differently just so I can see them.

Select both, use the Object menu, Pathfinder, Subtract. You will then have the outer ring.

Create a rectangle the width that you desire to create the segment separation.

Center it on the ring, like shown in the above screen shot.

Holding Alt/Option down, rotate the thin rectangle, let go and that will create a copy.

Once you get enough lines, create a compound path with them.

Select the outer ring and the rectangles that were made into a compound path.

Subtract again.

Release the compound path and each segment can be colored.

Or you can use a font called Chartwell

You can draw them manually (but who wants to do that?)

You could make them in Excel and print it to a PDF - then place that. (Or open the PDF in Illustrator to tidy up and apply your colours)

You could make them in Illustrator (although I find Excel more pleasant to work with in this particular area)

Agree with Eugene - there are some scripts around that will generate pie graphs... Marc Autret's "Claquos" script is one, there are others... great for one-off graphs, but if there are many, then chartwell font is the solution. That isn't free but it is a good solution if there is dozens - if not hundreds - of graphs to do.
