Placed PDF not automatically cropping to bounding box

Contributor ,

I am using Command D on a new MacBook Pro to select a 2 page PDF for placement in a document. I cannot get the placed pages to automatically crop or fit to the bounding boxes:

  • I set the cropping option as per Screenshot 01;
  • I get the result shown in Screenshot 02;
  • I then changed the cropping setting as per Screenshot 03;
  • the 1st page fits but the 2nd does not.

I have tried the other available options for cropping but none of them work either.

Is it possibel to get an automatic crop/fit? (why offer cropping options if they do not work?)

Do page 1 and page 2 have the same paper sizes and margins? What does page 2 show in the preview before you click OK?

Hi Barb !!

Page 1 and 2 have same paper size and margins.

Page 2 preview also shows "Bounding Box (All Layers)" when that option is selected for page 1, and also shows "Crop"  when that is the page 1 option.

I then wondered about Bob's comment below so:

  • I opened the Master on which the frames are placed;
  • I selected each frame and set the fitting option as per Screenshot 06;
  • and, I got Screenshot 07.

That works but it leaves me wondering why bother then with selecting a "Crop to:" option when placing the PDF?
