Placing Excel files into InDesign 2020 is not working

New Here ,

I'm trying to place .xlsx and .csv files into InDesign and I'm getting a "No filter found for this request." for the .xlsx file. The .csv file is grayed out, and can't be selected. I really need to know how to fix this as I'm crunching a deadline to get this data into my InDesign file. Anyone know a fix?

unless 2020 changed something a .xlsx file will not work. as for the .csv file do you have the "MS-DOS Comma Separated (.csv)? If i try to save the .csv files as UTF-8 it does not work Says its unsupported.

Saving the file as a 97-2004 .xls file worked. I'm on a Mac, so I tried Macintosh Comma Separated, which did not work.

Place it or data merge? Place should work, but there's a deal breaking bug there on Mac that resets many numbers to zero.
